My thoughts:
Great episode. Not only did we have plenty of easter eggs and homages, but it was all wrapped up to make one heck of a story for all ages.

It was a wise choice to skip the origin. I mean face it guys...first episode people want to see Spidey in action. We don't want to see the origin story about the boy bitten by the radioactive spider. It's pop culture now, everyone knows how Peter Parker became the Amazing Spider-man. We just want to see him kick butt.

The symbiotic Spider-man arc concluded nicely. Everything made sense, and I feel they have one upped the long reining champ that is Spider-man T.A.S.
Instead of turning evil just out of a temper. They wrote the symbiote subtly affecting Pete's mind....Pete had very good reason to snap in this episode, with the only person he didn't go off on being Aunt may.

He snapped at his "friends" for the way they initially treated him. he went to Tombstone so he could get the money to help his Aunt. He snapped at Eddie for the way he was treating him when he had done nothing wrong.

It was a nice touch to have Peter refer to himself as "WE and US" and than actually notice it later. ;) something I have felt for a VERY long time that should have been done in the comics.

The origin was used very effectively, with the symbiote trying to influence him by showing him the bad that came out of his life after he was bitten by the Spider. I liked the fact that Uncle Ben may be gone but he will always be a part of Spider-man's life. this gave the character a STRONG motivation for the series. It didn't feel like a after school special like in Spider-man T.A.S. at time.

It gave me the feeling that WOW this kids stepped up. He's not Spider-boy, He's Spider-man.

The mind battle gave me the feeling that it was only there to "fight of the episode" but it wasn't unbearable to watch. I really feel it was there to please the kids however. (god...im only 19 and i never thought i'd say that...lol :))

thats pretty much my only gripe for this ep.

other than Pete ripping the suit off his costume. (not like i wanted to see a naked spidey. but they have shown what happens when the suit was damaged off his body before. especially in group therapy)

It was nice to see another part of the ultimate venom origin used for his transformation albeit altered.
I'm kind sad about the 15 spiders ones missing remark...Ive always wondered why no one else was bitten or what happened to this spiders.

other than that solid great amazing spectacular and dare i say incredible episode.

actually man there is one more episode in the arch. Yea there was 15 spiders taken from the movies but only one got out and it likely was killed/steped on after it bit spidey.
 
Well, I'm not going to go into alot of detail in my review of this episode. It was, for the most part the origin episode of Spidey that we didn't get at the beginning. It was great, and I like how they took elements from the comics and the movies to do it.

Ed Asner, better known to us geeks as the voice of Jonah Jameson from the 90's TAS, was a terrific Uncle Ben. Inspiried casting there. I loved how he guided Peter against his dark side and the symbiote. Helped him see reason, and show him the truth. Great stuff.

Peter being bad under the influence of the symbiote was done perfectly. This is how it should be done, folks. Not Peter making his hair emo, and strutting down the street making hand gestures at women, or dry humping the air in jazz clubs. This is the real dark Peter.

Last, but not least, there's Eddie Brock. We've all been fretting for the last few episodes that Brock's arc was looking pretty weak, and he was only hating on Peter for weak reasons. Well, that was all debunked in this episode. Eddie loses his job and his place in ESU because of the loss of the symbiote. Compunded by the fact that Peter roughs Eddie up, and Eddie witnesses Spider-Man trying to destroy the symbiote, and hence Eddie's last chance of staying in college. Combine this with his hatred for Peter/Spider-Man, and the symbiote's hatred of them, and you have a real villain who you can sink your teeth into.

Yes, the impossible has been done. We finally have a version of Venom who has solid reasoning for hating Spider-Man. Bring on next week's episode!

Great series. Best Spidey on tv ever, and better than the third film.

Why do I do it? Why do I bother writing these reviews? Because Spectacular Spider-Man is just damn good.

This episode receives a 10/10 from me. Things have really gotten dark & psychological! Right off the bat from the episode you can see Peter being corrupted by the extraterrestrial parasite, and Brock's speech to Parker was rather anger filled. And it's good to see Aunt May pull through from her heart attack, it seems as though she remains strong. And to see Peter rejecting his friends, ignoring them and loathing in his own misery, you can see he felt trapped from everything that has happened. And I wasn't expecting to see him offering an alliance to the Big Man! That was surprising, considering the history between the two, and as always, Tombstone seems calm and cool in the presence of Spider-Man. The little intro in general was neat.

Tombstones demands that Spidey proving his worth was neat, especially when Spidey accepts! And it seems the final nail in the coffin seals Eddie's hatred of Peter Parker. And let me say this, it is refreshing to see Eddie in the hands of good writing, they have really breathed new life into this character and I am pleased. I've been a fan of Venom for many years, but I've already explained my views on this topic. So let me move forward. MJ & Gwen's conversation was done well, it was nice to see these two friends of Peter talking. And once again, Eddie confronting Peter, who has certainlly gone to the dark side, that was a rather spine tingling scene, and then Flash shows up and tells him how it is. It must have worked because Peter obviously noticed these changes in his life, and he realizes he must confront it. I liked how the symbiote was manipulating his thoughts, trying to change his mind about trying to separate.

So it finally becomes a different battle altogether. A psychological battle, memories of his past, truth and deception. We get to see the origin of Peter in the SSM, obviously there were nods to the movies, but I've always liked that addition, being a fan of the trilogy. I found this particularly moving, you could feel Peters desperation as remembered everything of how he came to be who he is. Especially the death of Ben Parker, and the confrontation of the crook who took his Uncles life. And thus the symbiote continues it's hold on Parker, it was really twisting his arm. Until a positive memory from his life showed up, Uncle Ben. A good influence on Peters life, obviously he left an impact on him and raised Peter to be a good person. Both Uncle Ben and Aunt May.

Like an intruding addiction, the symbiote continues to prevent Peter from trying to separate from it. Because Peter is a hero, even in the darkest days of his life his goodness will break through like a flashlight in a dark abyss of the unknown. The darkest battle certainlly lies within, and Peter fighting the influence of the corrupting parasite. And Peter Parker/Spider-Man is a true hero who would not give into the darkness, no matter how tempting it was. And finally Spidey frees himself of the burden, and realizing what the symbiote wanted and how dangerous it was, decides to destroy it at the ESU. And so we return to Eddie Brock, who for a moment had a glimmer of hope that his life wasn't going to be ruined, only to find out that Spidey intended to destroy the alien life form. And this finally crushes Eddie Brock, but something strange has happened. The symbiote survived, surely it wouldn't be destroyed by freezing temperatures. After all, it must have been in the meteorite floating through space for epoch's of time. Who knows what kind of world it came from. What it has encountered and done in it's unknown lifetime, and it's calling for a new host.

And like a cancer it spreads throughout Eddie Brock, and overwhelms him as well. And when the impossible thing reveals Spider-Man's true identity to Eddie, that escalating rage has gone over critical levels. Eddie Brock clearly gave into the symbiotes offer, in his situation, his state of mind and his more chaotic qualities, what a perfect match! Yes. Yes! YES! WE WILL HAVE VENGEANCE ON SPIDER-MAN! AAAARGGGGHHHHH!!!!!
Hahahaha. Clearly I am pleased with this incarnation of Venom. Right now there is a Venom-like grin on my face. I applaud the entire crew who has been working on the Spectacular Spider-Man. I love everything about this series.
 
They used the crappy Raimi origin story and ruined a perfectly good episode.

They didnt use all of the raimi movie origin they took aspects of it but along with alot of classic 616 spidey elements too like crusher hogan, leaping out of car's path, not killing the burgler and letting the cops take him away to name a few. From the films they took genetic spider- 15 spiders, burgler carjacked/killed ben, and the hairs on the fingers. It was a nice blend of good things from both the classics and the movies. They are trying to please both fan types.
 
I thought the episode was great. It did seem like they were trying to jam too much of the movie into the episode. which kinda sucked. Homages are great and all, but there comes a point where it'd be nice to stand on your own a bit.

On another note, I don't like that eddie is going to have those stupid symbiote fishhooks in his face and neck when he pulls back his mask. it looks ridiculous.

Now, it's been awhile since i watched Spider-Man 1. but didn't he not kill the burglar in the movie, too?

Lol. Yes there were lots and lots of homages. But that was exactly what I expected.

Wow, you are pleased with how they handled Eddie's transition to Venom. I hope you give this Venom a chance:up:.

As for me, those homages were the only problem, little nit-bits is fine but to actually have tons of them is not very original in my book. But a 10/10 nonetheless.

No they just took the biggest aspect of raimi's origin story that's all which was his horribly muddled and misinterpretation of why Peter became Spider-man.
