Iron Fist Iron Fist FULL SEASON ONE Discussion Thread (NO SPOILER TAGS NECESSARY!)

This show was pure s**t. Take a drink everytime Claire reminds us how she knows one of the Defenders, you'll die of alcohol poisoning.

I wish Danny had worn the outfit when he was doing Gao's challenges. He was really representing the Iron Fist then.

The more I think about it, they should have him wear the outfit then. Then, when he failed to kill, he'll stop wearing the outfit because he doesn't feel worthy of the title. Then, at the end, against Harold Meachum, he wears it again because he realizes he realizes he's Iron Fist but a protector of more than K'un Lun.

That would fit the story without it being the "superhero costume" of Daredevil and doesn't involve taking the time to change into a costume and put on a mask when fighting people who already know him when time is of the essence. I know that wouldn't thrill everyone, but it would mean episodes six and thirteen have the costume.

It would also have opened up the door for him to see Daredevil and decide to wear the costume full time in Defenders.

I don't get the negative reviews this show is getting. Sure it's not perfect, but I think a lot of it works quite well. Maybe I'm just too happy about seeing a solid Kung Fu superhero show, and that makes the flaws seem small and insignificant.

So apparently a new Iron Fist comic series came out today and that sucks too. And guess what? Its modeled after the Netflix show. I was reading IGN's review of issue 1 that came out today and ita apparently dark, gritty humorless, Danny's an alcoholic, he doest wear the costume, barely has access to his powers and the book is overall bland.

Here's an excerpt:

Danny doesn't wear the costume. He barely even has access to his powers any longer. His familiar supporting cast is gone. At some point, there's precious little left to even justify the Iron Fist name. A few tweaks here and there, and this could just as easily be a comic about a completely new, down-in-his-luck martial artist hero.

I'm guessing people don't think it's solid like you do.

Wait... does Gao being part of the hand contradict what came before? It made it seem like she was a part of her own separate criminal organization, but that's not explicitly contradictory.

Finally finished the show. Underwhelming, to say the least. I wish they had more time to knock out the script, because I like Finn Jones in this part and he deserved better. There are a lot of things about this show that I do like overall, but it's such a letdown compared to what came before. This might be the first "bad" product that Marvel has ever made. Maybe it'll improve on a rewatch; I wasn't in love with Luke Cage at first but I appreciated it a lot more the second time around.

I don't think it's the best it could have been, I enjoyed the show. Gao was my favorite part of the season.

I don't get why Joy is working with Davos to kill Danny.

Is it because of Harold?

Wow, sounds like the Netfilx series (minus the alcohol part). That said, I finished the series, and overall, it ranged from 'meh' to 'decent'. The parts that focused on K'un L'un were the best parts anyways.

The flashbacks to the plane crash and k'un lun were so jarring and annoying with the lame After Effects thing that happened everytime. Dude doesn't sell it and everything from his body movements to his facial expressions scream "I can't actually fight" especially when he's doing his tai chi like movement.

You can just tell he's faking it. Breaking whatever immersion they had and making it hard to believe that this guy is some kind of martial arts master.

Black Widow, Hawkeye, Daredevil and May would all destroy him in hand to hand combat.

And they made me dislike Claire by forcing her into the narrative, which I can't forgive.

1/10 That's 1 point for the drunken boxer.

Yes it is.

That's interesting. But the only people who know the true viewership numbers for Netflix is Netflix, and they never say.

In other words, if Iron Fist being their second highest streamed show is true, then season 2 will follow. Got it!

Seemed like Gao is leading her own faction of the Hand.

But does the Hand in the comics have anything to do with the Steel Serpent? I was never actually a big Iron Fist fan, so I basically know nothing. But from googling, I haven't found anything on a Hand/Steel Serpent connection. In Daredevil you had the Russians, Chinese and Japanese work together, but there never was any sort of tighter connection hinted at, between Gao and the Hand.

In Iron Fist, it seems like Scott Buck decided to simply throw all Asians into the same box. So Madame Gao who didn't seem to have any kind of connection to the Hand, suddenly leads her own separate faction.

Good to know the show's a bit. Hopefully they can course correct with season 2.

She was pushing Steel Serpent Heroin in Daredevil, so she was always with The Hand in some capacity. I don't know why people are saying she wasn't.

Because they want to be naysayers.

I just double checked and yea, Steel Serpent has nothing to do with The Hand. My bad. What is really odd is that the Steel Serpent is selling drugs in Daredevil, but helping Danny in Iron Fist.

This continuity is weird.

Also The Hand being such a key part of Iron Fist's mythos seems like a show-only thing. I mean I'm no expert in IF comics, but in what I have read, The Hand aren't played up as the uber-villains to Danny that they are here. And no, Davos doesn't really have a connection to them.

Also in DD, Nobu represented The Hand. It doesn't sense given how Kingpin's group was set up for their to be two representatives of the same organization. It was one for each.

But Iron Fist has established that there are different facets of the Hand. It's confusing but not contradictory.
