James Bond In Skyfall - Part 10

Gunbarrel is confirmed as returning. In the recent Bond on Set book, there are photos of Craig shooting the new sequence. Supposedly,

It's a classic style gunbarrel with white background and all. Craig-Bond is wearing a suit, not a tux. Which is what was standard unlike Roger Moore's gunbarrel in TSWLM. Interestingly, he is also supposedly not wearing a tie and his gunbarrel pose is similar to Dalton's.

That sounds just like the QoS gunnbarrel.

The extended version is even better. It's classic Bond. Love it.

Well, what did you expect? There isn't that much variety in the classic gunbarrel. Of course, they sound really similar based on a couple of simple photos. Some small differences can change the sequence a good bit. Craig's walk was too fast in the last one. The gunbarrel had no tension to it. Maybe, that was their primary reason for re-filming it.

I am just saying it sounds similar. I am sure there will be subtle differences, like the speed. But the description of what he is wearing surprises me.

But he got rid of the tie! That is so huge! :oldrazz:

More seriously, I should have clarified regarding the pose. When I said like Dalton, I mean Dalton's gunbarrel pose in all the promo art for The Living Daylights. (more theatrical with the spread arm)

I just realized that Dalton's actual pose in his movies is pretty identical to Craig's in QoS.

No he's wearing a tie. Look at the pic again. Craig's Bond - at least for Skyfall - wears tie all the time. He's not wearing a tie when he confronts Silva is because he was roughed up.

I think that may be a glimpse of what The title sequence will look like. Notice the background is purposefully blured and what is going on in it. It starts our teal colored like the water that Bond falls into after being shot. Then it cuts to the clouds and goes through them. Then goes to fire with sparks and spits flying from it. Then it cuts to some colorful background. Throw in some bond girl silhouettes and you have a sequence.

He is? I don't have the book. I was just reporting what was being said on the commanderbond.net forums by those who have the book. (hence me beginning my description of the gunbarrel with the word "supposedly".

I hope they bring back the Casino Royale gunbarrel design and blood effect. I thought it was much more interesting update of the aging original design and effect.

Love, love, love the Skyfall theme. This is exactly what I wanted and it more than delivered.

As I've said before it's Adele meets Shirley Bassey but with an ominous and lusty tone to it.

Wow! That song is perfect. Usually the Bond songs are always great and this one continues the tradition.

It still isnt wowing me. Im going to need to hear it some more and in theaters.

Really? I only think a handful of the Bond songs are great. The rest range from forgettable to horrible...

I think the preview and Adele's previous work got people expecting some sort of over the top, Shirley Bassey like number. I really like that the theme isn't that bombastic. It's got a nice slower tempo that is more ominous and introspective in nature. It really fits where it comes in in the film's narrative,
with Bond bleeding out, almost drowning in the water and all that.

Man, some of the hate I've read on other sites toward the song is really surprising. I'm not quite sure what people really expect from a Bond song, it's either to familar or too out there.

I was expecting more power and that's the vibe i got from the preview. That it was building to something. Instead its the 90 second preview dragged out for 4 minutes. The background singers are weak and it meanders more than it builds to anything significant. It just bores more me and i feel very little. I feel cold towards it.

Yeah, you're right. I was a little too excited. What I meant to say is that this song falls in the category of great songs along with Live and Let Die, Goldfinger, Diamonds are Forever, A View To A Kill, The Living Daylights, Licence to Kill, Goldeneye, Tomorrow Never Dies, and Casino Royale. Now that I think about it, it's unfortunate that I only fancy 10 out of 23 Bond themes.

Each to their own I guess. Just always seems like every new Bond theme can't win, I can't recall the last time one was universally praised, maybe they're just victims of 50 years of music and score.

Recently, I figured Chris Cornell's "You'll Know My Name" was the closest to it.

Wouldn't exactly say it was praised but nobody seemed to have a problem with it, so yeah that's the closest we've come.

The first six films, Live and Let Die, and Casino Royale are it for me really.

This song is definitely growing on me, but it isn't like YKMN. Something different that works so well. The version in the film is arguably the best in the series. This feels really safe, but still quite good.

As I've questioned before, is it really possible to achieve that pose that is in Dalton's promo art? Are the photos of Craig also just for promo art and not the actual gunbarrel?

If you look at Dalton's promo art, not only does he have to pivot on his right leg but then slide it out wide and bring his left arm up. He couldn't even do that for his own gunbarrel walk, because it's not natural for him to get into that pose from a walk from the right to the left of your screen. The promo art looks more like it comes from a walk from the left to the right.

imo far too many sound dated or just downright bad. Even Live and Let Die is missing the timeless quality of the Beatles work. It is good, but not that good.

1. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
2. You Know My Name
3. You Only Live Twice
4. Thunderball
5. Goldfinger
6. The James Bond Theme

You can rearrange them, but that would be my list of the "great" Bond theme songs. Right now I would put Adele's in the Live and Let Die, Diamonds are Forever, Goldeneye best of the rest list.
