James Bond In Skyfall - Part 9

This is truth. Goldeneye is easily in my top 3 and I think Casino speaks for itself. Campbell really seems to understand what makes Bond great while also being adaptable. Who knows. Maybe he will introduce the next Bond as well.

Goldeneye is my #2 favorite behind From Russia With Love. It proved that Bond wasn't a Cold War character (with some due to respect to License to Kill, it felt too much like an episode of Miami Vice at times, and shows it date).

Nothing against Pierce. But I would have liked to see Dalton's 007 Vs. Bean's 006.

I would have loved to have seen what Dalton would have done with Goldeneye. In a lot of ways, I feel like it was written with his portrayal of the character in mind. I think that is also why it is the only Brosnan film I can stand. Brosnan plays Bond far more seriously and coldly than he does in any of his other films.

Today's the day for US fans. Adele's "Skyfall" theme will be released in full tonight.

*Cough* North American fans... Don't forget your friendly, Northern neighbours.

By the way, I'm so glad that Bond's new gun is the PPK/S 9mm. I hated the P99. I wish they had chosen to switch back to the PPK in CR instead of QOS. It made no sense for a spy to carry such a large, bulky full-size pistol and, visually, it paled in comparison to the iconic PPK. With the PPK/S, we get the iconic design back while addressing the PPK's modernity and stopping power issues. I wonder if Q will make any disparaging comments regarding Bond's old PPK when giving him the PPK/S in the Gallery. It would be a nice call back to the scene with Armourer in Dr. No.

Shame Dalton couldn't do A View To A Kill. A darker movie with him facing off against Walken would've been amazing!

True, though I'm talking more about Ian Fleming's commissioned sketch of Bond than the inspirations for Bond. The drawing is what Fleming imagined what Bond would actually look like.

Reminds me of a young William Hurt.

Re: Director

It won't happen, but it would be poetic if Steven Spielberg got to direct since he was denied For Your Eyes Only leading to the Indiana Jones being made.

Don't you mean Friday night?

No, the time stated was 0.07 on 5 October. That means 7 minutes past midnight tonight (UK time). That's the only time on 5 Oct it will be 0.07, which is the early hours of the morning, but still counted as tonight for most people.

While I love Sean Bean to death, I always thought Alec Trevelyan was an overrated Bond villain. Not only are his motives convoluted, but there just simply isn't enough screentime (zero flashbacks) to make his past friendship with Bond believable.

That's the one thing GE could've used.

Am l the only one who thinks QoS is legitimately good? :o

No. I'm with you. I love it.

I thought it was great, I found CR to be over-rated and QoS under-rated personally. Though CR is still the better movie.

nah, I love it! so rewatchable

Nice to find that I'm in such esteemed company. To this day I simply dont understand the hate it gets. Sure, I'm not so blinkered that I dont notice it's obvious flaws but I love the movie regardless; it has it's plus points and it's certainly not as bad as some would have us beleive.

Imo its good parts are some of the best Bond moments. Its bad parts are not nearly as bad as the worst Bond moments/elements.

it just has so many good moments - yeah theres some crap in there but its easily outweighed by the good imo

Agreed. Things like Bond sitting up drinking during the flight with Mathis are very Fleming-esque, but there is just so much filler due to the writers' strike

Not to mention the film for all intents and purposes is an action film and the action was full of so much promise but was completely ruined by the dumbass shakey cam and butcheresque editing.

I wonder if someone will ever invent technology to stabilise shakey cam filming in the future?

My main problem with QOS, they killed Mathis. Killed him for no damn reason! He's such an important and useful character, he's the French Felix for crying out loud. Such a waste.

Matthis should've been the one to have the conversation with Bond about a quantum of solace, from the short story. I wish there were that little scene in the film. It was a missed opportunity.

Exactly. Although it was hinted at that the girl from the real QOS was Solage in CR, it would have bee cool if she was Matthis' wife when Bond went to meet him ... then you get a bit of the story.

He didn't need that with Xenia and her delicious thighs of doom as back up.

Is there anything more attractive than a woman who enjoys a small orgasm while firing an assault rifle?
