James Bond In Skyfall - Part 10

Yeah I wouldn't argue about Pierce being a bigger household name than Craig during his time as Bond.

With Craig his tenure as Bond is far from over so it's hard to place him because his Bond filmography isn't complete. Though with me, he's up there so far.

And with Brosnan, I only liked him in Goldeneye. In fact, he's only been in one truly great film in my eyes. What a shame.

In terms of who's the bigger name the two modern Bonds, well...I want to say Craig because of our digital age. Brosnan was big but I felt his hype lowered with each film.

On average, it has to be Craig and Brosnan just because of the time. Craig's Bond is worldwide.

Blame EON and the screenwriters for constantly regurgitating the improved Bond formula that made Goldeneye successful.

New TV spot with a huge spoiler for anyone well-versed in the history of the Bond series.

100% confirms that Ralph Fiennes' character, Mallory, is the new M at the end of the film. The "Are you ready to get back to work?" exchange takes place in the original Bernard Lee-style M's office. The Bond on Set book and a previous production blog have confirmed that that set is the location of the film's final or second last scene. The new TV spot now confirms that Fiennes is the guy behind that desk. Man, this is like when Marion walked out of City Hall in the Talia costume.

But when Connery was Bond, he was basically a rockstar. So much that he had no privacy when they went to shoot for a film in Japan. Despite the other films he was doing, he was pretty much known as Bond. So much that Lazenby tried to copy his look so that he could get the role.

To be fair, I don't think the Bond name has had the same draw as it did in the early days. I could be wrong, especially since Bond is more of a British character, but I don't see the casual movie goer today knowing about the franchise as a whole or the history behind the character. Plus, the later actors have made other movies in between the Bond films, so it's not like they're not known for being other characters.

Very possible, almost probable. Still, that could simply be in response to his comeback. We shall see.

There is a small possibility that the question is from earlier, but I doubt it.
Mallory has a different office during the rest of the film and his conversation with Bond about getting back to work seems to occur in the bunker. Unless Bond's response in classic M's office is in fact to a different question (crafty editing), I think that settles that Mallory is sitting behind M's desk. The Bond on Set photo of the recreated classic M's office even has a photo of the Vauxhall MI6 building on the wall, as though in memorandium... you know after Silva blows it up.

Bond isn't as huge a character as he was in the 60s, but the character is still a household name. I honestly put him up there with any superhero (yes, even Batman, Superman, and Spider-man) in terms of name recognition. With that said, there's a lot about his character that people do not know. They only know that he's a badass secret agent who loves thrills and women. Personally, I think Bond is one of those characters that sell himself. You have action and women, and guarantee that the movie will be a fun movie you will have a box office success with a Bond.

Further proof more and more the series Is returning to classic bond.If M
Is Mallory at films end
It will be great. It's time that
M
Becomes Bond's boss again and enough of this surrogate mother crap.Judi Dench worked In Brosnan's era as new M and him as holdover from cold war but In reboot Craig needs his own Bernard Lee

I will never change my mind that rebooting bond was bad Idea but It's time
to get Bond back to feeling like Bond again. If Q's reintroduction works hopefully
In next film they can reintroduce Moneypenny.

With Skyfall
aparently a more personal story with M's past coming back to haunt her,Bond, and MI6
the next film can return to a world saving Bond and will allow Craig to be the save the world Bond.

In response to the Moneypenny issue,
from what I'm hearing on the Bond fansites' forums, Bond girl Eve in Skyfall is Moneypenny. Screwing up and shooting Bond rattled her nerves and she takes a desk job by the end of the film.

well everyone keep swearing up and down that
Eve Isn't moneypenny

also I don't like the Idea of
Eva as Moneypenny.I think turning tradional white characters black or other minority needs to stop.Plus If Bond sleeps with Eve It may hurt the tradional Bond flirts with Moneypenny If he has had sex with her

The idea is that they get very close to sleeping together (the scene with Eve shaving Bond), but that, in the end, they do not sleep together, which is the source of Bond and Moneypenny's sexual tension.

I'm not going anywhere near the race issue.

They have said that she's not Moneypenny...but Marion Cotillard also said that she wasn't playing Talia. I wouldn't be surprised if Eve does end up being our new Moneypenny. And I don't see the problem with changing her race; it's not like that matters with this character, and it's not like this 'changing a traditionally white character to another race' happens often.

I'd rather not get into this debate, but if a supporting character's race is not that important a factor to them, it really shouldn't matter. That's all I'll say about it. I honestly don't care either way about Moneypenny's race. If it helps, Moneypenny technically is African.

well
It's becoming more and more common In COmics, films, and TV to change classic characters race or gender.Changing Nick fury to Black. The Kingpin black.Starbuck In battlestar galactica to woman. In hawaii Five-O changing Kono to female. In Man of steel Perry White Black.Just Imagne what would happen If Blade or Shaft were turned to white

as for Information about Eve
That can work In providing tension between her and Bond.It will be Intresting to see If Naomi harris Is willing to commit to small role In ongoing franchise

Tell that Felix. BTW I don't mind if its a minor character. For example I was happy that Lawrance Fishburne was cast as Perry White in 'Man of Steel'. It'll differentiate him from J Jonah.

Response with Possible Spoilers regarding M's future
I'm not aware of those denials, just that I believe they mentioned at commanderbond.net that the Bond on Set book references scenes 172-174 (the final three) as being the White Hall rooftop, "Mallory's office" (the photo of which is identical to Bernard Lee's M Office and different from Mallory's office seen in the rest of the film), and "Eve's Office". Which makes me think we do have Talia-style lie going on.

When changing a characters race, I'm a not fan of it either but also there are exceptions to the rule. I liked Sam Jackson as Fury for example.

In other words, I'm not a fan of self-righteous/absolute finger wagging "How dare you" mentality either.

Exactly. For some characters, it really doesn't matter.

Wishaw, Fiennes and Harris all have options to come back for Bond 24.

as for the race issue, MP being black, Asian, or any other race is inconsequential. Her race isn't important, just so long as she sounds British.

Oh and notice in this spot when Bond says "Ready for duty." that it is in the same office as the office he is standing in when he says "With Pleasure." when asked if he is "Ready to return to duty?"

I am guessing that due to the file being leaked and the big stink over M's involvement she steps down or is asked to step down and Mallory is presented as her replacement. It is at this time that Bond "returns to the living" and Mallory is acting as commander of MI6. Bond goes through his rehabilitation and training. After a while we get this scene with Bond fully recovered and "Ready for duty" and to stop Silva. Mallory asks him if he is "Ready to return" and Bond slyly responds "With pleasure." And then he's off to kick ass and take names. I don't think the scene is at the end or confirms anything about M. It most likely confirms that Mallory will be acting commander throught the film in place of M.

And they can change races all they want, as long as they keep the nationalities intact. No American Bond and no English Leiter.

Exactly. And the fact that Bond isn't just one thing - it's an always changing piece of cinema.

If they were going to change race it would have to be Idris Elba.
