James Bond In Skyfall - Part 10

Oh..... it matters. :argh:

I did it awhile ago. Unless you know something I don't. Have you seen the future, another treble on the horizon? :awesome:

last time I checked the current champions of England were Man City.... unless you mean combined totals of trophies won..... in which case its still Liverpool (just)

I'm also a fan of the books first and foremost. Is there much of Fleming in the film? Any unused Fleming ideas or scenes incorporated in the film? Just generally speaking, don't need spoilers.

not at all (with that said there might be some small things as I havent read any of the Flemming novels for a good few years, but nothing seemed familiar to me) - not a bad thing as the film was good, but I'd like to see an adaptation as the next film - there are some great nods to previous films though, I may have missed some of the more subtle ones as like I said before Im not a huge fan of all the older Bond films

Thanks for the response! That's good to know. Do you mind providing some general comments regarding the film's action sequences? I'm a big fan of Casino Royale, but I found the big set piece action sequences felt somewhat out of place at times. They didn't feel like a natural outgrowth of the story and were too much of a contrast to the film's quieter character scenes IMO.

the action scenes occured naturally here, the story was the driving factor and the action scenes only served the story - there are some beautiful scenes though Deakins and Mendes use of silhouettes is great

you can find my review at unleashthefanboy.com (i did write it late last night though)

I want this film NOW!!!

And whats wrong with the title sequence?

Great to see a lot of very positive feedback. However, can anyone give me the heads-up regarding the reputation of these reviewers? There was a lot of extremely positive tweets regarding TDKR after it came out and we know how that all turned out...

:funny: that it was just as good? i fail to see your point

I think that's a bit of a selective interpretation. I liked TDKR, but I don't think I could successfully argue that it was as memorable as TDK, or that it had anything like the same cultural impact. As I said, however, SkyFall is well served by a divisive predecessor.

Edit: First average-but-mildly-negative review, but it is from http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2012/oct/13/skyfall-james-bond-first-look-review?newsfeed=true , which is a loathsome, dishonest and joyless rag.

I loved Rises. Favourite film of the year (doesn't beat TDK for me) but I am constantly coming into debate with myself over how I feel about it :p

Though I believe Skyfall has a great chance to take top place :D

Empire Verdict

"Skyfall is pretty much all you could want from a 21st Century Bond: cool but not camp, respectful of tradition but up to the moment, serious in its thrills and relatively complex in its characters but with the sense of fun that hasn’t always been evident lately. One thing’s certain: James Bond will return" 4/5

I'm sure the movie is good, but Empire goes gaga over everything.

I know what you mean. A film has to be terrible to get * from them, and they award ***** far too often. For all that, the reviews tend to be perceptive and well written, even if their scoring system is meaningless.

Just to clarify well yeah of course Empire gave it a 4/5.

But for comparison umm, they gave Quantum of Solace 4/5. Just saying ;) .

IGN giving this high marks is also not a surprise.

I'm more curious what guys like Ebert have to say. Not because I have an especially high opinion of his reviews, but sometimes it is equally as interesting to see a movie Ebert does end up liking versus ones he doesn't. Like Ebert liked Avengers but he gave it all those backhanded compliments and those lazy quotes of other writers and how fanboys are you know whatting over Avengers or something to that affect.

Would you care to give me details about it in spoiler rags? Its about the only thing i dont mind having spoiled.

theres not much I can describe it as, I cant remember it all exactly, just cgi stuff as usual with different things happening, it just didnt do it for me this time round

So who did this then? Was it you?

Of course DAD and Madonna are better than Skyfall and Adele...

To end my joke, I'm speaking Bizarro ;)

Just watched Goldfinger for the first time. Great movie! Easily one of my favorites and if i had to rank it i would say it is my second favorite behind Casino Royale.

Totalfilm gave it 5 stars. I liked everything they said about it and especially the stuff they said about Bond having to find his footing again when he returns after the istanbul incident. Sounds like a great film.

And maybe im inferring too much but one of Dench's lines they mentioned is "You know the rules of the game. You've been playing it long enough!" And her saying "When you've worked with Bond as long as i have you learn that somewhere in the south china sea is precise intelligence." Implies that this film is set quite a bit of time after QOS, and that Bond has been a 00 for a while. Not a new agent like he was in CR and QOS. Sounds like this is an aged and seasoned Bond.

LOL, you know what I mean. The tweets and first reactions after the press screenings for TDKR were extremely positive. ("Better than TDKR!" and all that) Then, when it came to the actual reviews from the more reliable critics, the response was more mixed. However, with Skyfall, it seems that is a moot point because the actual reviews are as glowing as the twitter reactions.

Best Bond ever - http://www.sabotagetimes.com/tv-film/skyfall-review-the-best-bond-has-ever-been/

I liked this part:
As a blockbuster film, Skyfall is a skilfully executed film that rightfully takes its place amongst the Avengers and Dark Knights of 2012 – and is arguably even better than those two cinematic behemoths. But as a Bond film, Skyfall is a glorious ode to Britishness and a character who has remained popular for 50 years for a good reason.
