James Bond In Skyfall - - - - - Part 14

Can anybody else confirm for me if Quantum of Solace is the only 007 movie where Bond doesn't introduce himself to someone with the classic "Bond, James Bond" line?

He said bit in LTK when he met the bad guy's chick ... or so it played out in the novel. I'm pretty sure it happened just the same in the movie.

QOS I've only seen once so I could not say.

There's a few movies where he doesn't say it the Connery ones. I think this YouTube video has them all from the movies they were said in.

The ones he doesn't say it in are
From Russia with Love
Thunderball
You Only Live Twice
Quantum of Solace

Let us all revel in the brilliance of Arnold :

Yeah, I had heard that. Then I heard somewhere that it wasn't true.

I'm not sure what to believe.

I do want Quantum back in the next film. That storyline hasn't been resolved yet.

It's a shame they want to ignore this. I think Quantum was going to be the Spectre of the series, and just because some fans weren't as ecstatic about QoS as the others, they're going to completely ignore it.:csad:

The brilliance of Arnold is blank? I suppose that is appropriate.

Newman is where it's at, and it'll be great hearing him again for Bond 24 if everything with goes well.

No disrespect to Arnold because I did enjoy his work, but his scores are overly regal and orchestral if anyone catches my drift. Newman's score was refreshing. The variation of it makes you appreciate it grandiose pieces. The scores that play during [blackout]M's death[/blackout] or when Bond is following Patrice are different than the norm and make you appreciate the grand overtures that play when Bond arrives in Shanghai and the casino in Macau.

I blacked out that certain scene because I didn't want anyone b****ing at me or anything.

I think it works now.

is young bond worth a read?

Yes! Honestly, there are some hardcore Bond fans who will tell you not to waste your time on the basis that the novels are about Bond's teenage years but they themselves have admittedly never read them. Trust me when I say this, the young Bond novels are excellent pieces of literature and are cannon to Fleming's novels and as chickenscratch mentioned, Higson knows his **** and drops numerous hints and easter eggs in them. Great adventures and masterful story telling. Go them asap.

I see what you're saying but I do feel that his scores for CR and QoS are utterly magnificent and generally better than what Newman did but Newman did a great job considering what his usual style of scoring is.

Personally I felt Newman's score was more...I dunno, modern? It sounded like a proper, updated version of the "Bond" sound. Like "Adrenaline"for instance sounds (to me anyway) like the perfect theme for the Bond of this day and age.

Overall I felt it suited the tech/digital theme of Skyfall perfectly, and it's something I'd like to see more of going forward.

Agreed.

Without a doubt Higson does. I remember when us dudes over at the CBN were trying to get Higson on the regular adult Bond novels.

But yeah, Higson is pretty deep, nothing defies cannon, he even drops in hints at later events in his life (post Fleming authors, even a ref to DMC which was a new book at the time). Plus he's not afraid to really put James through some stuff.

If Gardner wrote the real world spy stories within Bond, then Higson wrote the ones with the most charm and excitement.

Thanks CS and Ajendo two glowing recommendations I'll be getting them asap

I didn't know you were on Cbn. Yes, I remember there was a call for Higson to get on writing adult Bond, particularly after that little snippet between adult Bond abd Mathis GE wrote at the end of double or die iirc. It's a shame that he won't be able to follow up Bond's time at Eton with the Fettes era of Bond's life. I heard Higson had already carved out an outline for at least 4 novels.

Yup, I post under my first name there.

Congrats to Skyfall snagging two awards @ the Oscars

Adele wins best song Oscar for the Skyfall theme and Skyfall wins Best Sound-Editing.

I also loved the 50th anniversary tribute to Bond with Shirley Bassey singing the title song of "Goldfinger" which is still to this day regarded as one of the best Bond songs of all time. Imo after that I'd give it to Chris Cornell's “You Know My Name” from Casino Royale.

According to Deadline, it was true that during the genesis of the Bond segment, the producers wanted all of the Bond actors present but Connery refused. Suposedly Brosnan didnt want to do it either but thats a first ive eard of that. So they went ahead without any of the actors.

Don't you find it funny how Skyfall was nominated and recognized in it's 50th anniversary?

A tie for Sound Editing? What a joke.

Bassey singing Goldfinger was EPIC however and it IS the best Bond song of them all IMO.

Bassey still has it!

Something was wrong with the microphone during Adeles, Barbs and Norah Jones performances.

This Oscar production was a bit weird to me.

I think its ridiculous that film where the vast majority of the environment is a cg backdrop and centers around a "character" that is added in post won cinematography over Skyfall. Ridiculous.
