Did anyone else get peeved with Silva's "I've got a convenient plan for everything" plot point going on in this movie? I mean it wasn't as egregious as Joker in TDK(UGH!) but when that train came straight at Bond as he was chasing Silva my hand smacked my forehead so hard I'm sure the whole theater heard it. I hate stuff like that.

That's about the only cringe-worthy scene in that film. I felt like they did it out of obligation. Kind of a nod to the silly things Bond villains do.

Bond kind of remarks on it's silliness when he says "I hope that wasn't meant for me".

Now that you mention it.

Initiate nitpicking mode!

Silva planned to get caught. Silva conveniently leads Bond underground then blews up a train that's passing by.

What if Silva's plan was off by five minutes? No train to emerge through and Bond waiting for something that's not coming for another five minutes

With all that said Silva should have planned for the knife to be thrown in his back >_>

Maybe Silva should have said "It's all part of the plan....."

Skyfall Blu-ray Release Date, Details and Pre-Order

MGM and Fox Home Entertainment have formally announced a February 12, 2013 release date for the latest James Bond 007 adventure Skyfall starring Daniel Craig and directed by Sam Mendes on Blu-ray and DVD (February 18 for the UK). However, I will be available a week earlier on February 5 via Digital HD download from Amazon.com, iTunes, CinemaNow, Xbox Live, Playstation and Vudu.
No tech specs are available at this time, though a safe bet is a 1080p video presentation and 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio. A DVD and digital copy will be included with the Blu-ray version of the film.

Fox and MGM have not yet announced an updated version of the Bond 50 box set that sold out during the holidays. It is widely expected that a new version of this excellent James Bond 007 Blu-ray set will be released in the near future and include Skyfall in the package. The original release contained an empty slot for Skyfall in the Blu-ray collection.

All of the three-plus hours of Skyfall bonus features listed below save for the Shooting Bond segments The Title Sequence, DB5, Women, and Locations are exclusive to Blu-ray.

:hehe:Honestly, I wouldn't call that a nitpick. Complaining about Craig not having brown hair, now that's a nitpick. But a sequence being basically contrived, especially one that moves the movie along? No, I'd call that a legitimate complaint and weakness of the film.

I rather liked it. On the other hand, I disliked our first introduction to Silva. All his whinning and moaning grated on me. Favorite characters, anyone? I really liked Mallory (Fiennes).

I thought the train bit was awesome, personally.

Yes, it's ridiculously perfect timing, but so is practically everything The Joker does in TDK, especially his opening bank robbery and school bus escape.

I really liked Mallory too. And Eve, and Q.

Hope they're all back.

Oh movies are always full of conveniences. Skyfall and TDK are nothing new to that portion of filmmaking.

Not always. And not all conveniences are of the same magnitude in regards to their impact on the plot. The stuff in Skyfall annoyed me but it wasn't done too many times so I could still enjoy the film for the most part(though it does fall well below Casino Royale for me because of those shenanigans). With TDK, it happened so much(and so blatantly) that it killed the film for me.

Slightly off-topic, but I need Mikael Persbrandt to play a Bond villain.

I don't believe Silva had planned for Bond to be there when the train came through; the situation just presented itself for him to use that line.

Well I don't want to derail this thread with off topic stuff. Suffice it to say that either TDK's Joker is either the luckiest son of a gun alive or he read the script ahead of time to know just how to stay ahead of Batman & the cops. But my utter hatred of that film is a matter of public record 'round these parts.

The thing that bothered me with the bus escape was that it wasn't the last bus in the traffic line. I mean, he just drove it out of the front of a building, with debris still falling off of it, and the buses behind him just keep on driving like it's nothing.

That occured to me and since there's not a lot of other stuff in the film like that then I can begin to give it the benefit of the doubt.

I am thinking back and can't think of any instances of this, except for perhaps the bus in the prologue, but that is easily explained. Considering I get quite easily annoyed by this stuff, like the train scene in Skyfall, can't really see it.

With the Skyfall scene, I just assumed he wanted a distraction to occupy the police and Bond being there was just his "luck". What bothered me was Bond not shooting him as soon as he saw him.

Why would that Bother you? Bond had no intention of shooting him. He wanted to recapture him not kill him, which is why tge shots he fired were merely warning shots.

TDK is a comic book movie...this ain't real life.

There was no reason to capture him alive at that point. He had already shown that capturing him alive was a bad idea and that he was a great danger to M. He tries to kill him moments later.

Worst of all, those "warning shots". Just not possible.

Not a good enough excuse as far as I am concerned. Especially with they type of comic book movie that it wanted to be. The same stuff happening in the much more cartoony Burton movies probably wouldn't have bothered me much at all. But that's not the type of film they were making.

So him smuggling giant bombs all over the city at a moment's notice even though he couldn't possibly know where he needed to get them ahead of time didn't raise your awareness? And the fact that he could even do all that in a city under high terror alert and NOBODY catches him in the act. And there's plenty more as well.

The movie already made a point that there were corrupt cops working for Maroni who was working for Joker.

That's the weakest excuse I've heard yet. So I guess every bystander was in on it too, huh?

And it still wouldn't explain how they knew where to put the bombs ahead of time. All I've been able to conclude is the Joker read the movie script before hand.
