I personally like DAF (and every Bond film for the most part) but agree with everything in your post. Especially the laser...the look was especially cringeworthy. I partially agree about Blofeld, but am more bothered the actor previously played a Bond Ally in You Only Live Twice.

It really is. Actually the whole movie looks cheap. Did they blow the budget on Connery's salary or something? This after three films that are absolutely beautiful to look at (TB, YOLT & OHMSS).

Actors playing multiple roles in a franchise doesn't really bother me that much. Leone did it all the time.

I found it odd that they had the woman who was Scaramenga's mistress come back as Octopussy. As well as having the main villain from The Living Daylights come back as a U.S. ally in Goldeneye and Tomorrow Never Dies. Just odd to have people come back despite previous roles.

Agreed, but I think we had more time to get reintroduced to Maud in the nine years between The Man With The Golden Gun and Octopussy------over the 4 years between Charles Gray appearing in You Only Live Twice and Diamonds Are Forever.

Quantum of Solace is a great Bond film. It just isn't as good as Casino Royale or Skyfall.

It like a good Bond film that they decided to edit so that you can never tell what's going on.

There are many great speeches in movies. This is another one of them. The fact Javier Bardem did this all in one long take is simply amazing.

Not only was it one take but the set was built around this speech. They measured to see how long it'd take him to make the speech

By who? The scene itself is well done. His performance is not. Look at the way Daniel Craig plays the death of Vesper at the end of Casino Royale and then look at how much better this could have been. There's a reason he only played Bond once and it's not because he decided to leave. He was fired.

Mate, you need to get your facts straight. Lazenby was offered a 7 picture deal and was in negotiations to return but thanks to some ill-advice from his manager Lazenby ultimately shot himself in the foot and sabotaged his career and was then fired. It had nothing to do with him not being a good enough actor. You should try doing your homework next time.

I just re watched it this weekend and I forgot how sweet it is, one of the things I really like is the music by Newman, it really had that classic 007 feel, just as much as Arnold did. I DO like Arnold a lot but I have to say Newman just killed it in this movie, and I hope he returns for future films .

I think the biggest challenge for Mendes is how to make this different tonally from Skyfall and keep it fresh but keep what qualities made THAT film work.

Craig totally deserves a solid era. Especially now with Moneypenny and Q set up, I want to see this Bond interact with them.

Skyfall shows if you put in the work and assemble the right team, you produce quality.

I'm so conflicted on whom I want to return more. Skyfall has some tremendously well written music, and is one of my favorite scores, and 007 scores in general, and I just adore QoS & CR scores so freaking much, but on the other hand, Newman hit the (what I now call for Craig) "classical" phase of Bond, where things are back to the get-go, so I can't choose who I want to come back. Not that I don't think Arnold could do it, but I just don't know.

Listen to Mendes' audio commentary. The guy is a very skilled director and his overall approach is refreshingly academic. Mendes is smart enough to switch things up to a fitting tone but definitely check out his audio commentary to get a more fundimemtal understanding as to what else he can bring to the table.

Well with Q Sam said that he was going for a more realistic approach with the gadgets (at least that why he said in the feature on the Skyfall Blu Ray) so none of the outlandish gadgets like the exploding pen etc. The gadgets will have some sort of realism to them going forward.

Exactly! Both were great, and some of my favorite works of the respective composers.

I'm hoping dearly that Deakins returns too.

Craig for 3 more films and Mendes looking to be back are already very encouraging, but I really agree here. Deakins did an amazing job with the cinematography on Skyfall, and I am hoping that he comes back for more! Skyfall was easily one of the most beautiful big budget blockbusters to look at in recent years.
