James Bond In Skyfall - Part 6

Let me put it this way, i'd think it'd be great if Nolan didnt write the exact script (though conceived the story) and yeah if he worked with Craig as Bond. The main thing I'm concerned about with Nolan is that he'd make it more his own film than a Bond film.

Bond's nationality may be that. But you have to remember this film isn't just for the UK. Even more of a reason why it would go over people's heads. Also unsure how many UK guys would get it.... UNLESS (I'm unsure) it's the UK version of 'Victoria's Secret' in that a guy would have live under a rock to have never heard of it lol. IF that, then - yeah - maybe it does have a double meaning. Trying to get a response out of the interrogator.

I think that's a bit arrogant on your part. Agent Provocateur is a very well know company in the UK. The film may not be just for the UK but Bond is British, so I'm sure that the meaning of the words use is a double meaning, those that have never heard of the company will think its on about the real meaning but in the UK it will be seen as a jokey line, I mean this is Bond after all.

If Mendes did not come back then my top 3 directors for Bond 24 would be

3) Danny Boyle
2) Chris Nolan
1) Matthew Vaughn

Been catching up on the last couple of pages; being from the U.K. it's absolutely obvious that the Agent Provocateur gag obviously has a double meaning.

I'd rather see Nolan try and work with Craig. :o
And yeah Nolan would need to change his act a little for him to be able to make a truly great Bond movie.

It would be because of his act why he'd be chosen for a future Bond installment.

His directing capabilities aren't so much the problem, I think it's more his writing that would need to change in order to fit in a Bond film.

I feel that with Nolan there'd be a big risk of it becoming a Chris Nolan movie rather than Bond movie.
That said, seeing how he effortlessly changed his style with Dark Knight (which I felt was very much in the vein of a Michael Mann film) I could see Nolan working well with Daniel Craig's version of Bond.

Stories like From Russia With Love, Moonraker and On Her Majesty's Secret Service are tailored totally to Nolan's style.

Nolan coming on board, I think, will be a different kind of beast. He won't have 100% control of it, because he'll have a tradition to maintain. And since he's borrowed heavily from Bond before, I wouldn't worry about it being a Nolan movie more than a Bodn one. On the contrary, it'll clearly be a Bond movie, just thourgh Nolan's approach, which is beneficial for Bond, imo.

I think Nolan clings to reality too much....

really? I think very few of his films are that realistic (memento being the only one I can actually think of that is remotely realistic actually) In fact the myth of Christopher Nolan being this realistic director actually grinds my gears

working backwards

inception - the whole premise has no realistic element

the dark knight - touted as realistic but far less realistic than any James Bond film I can think of, loads of examples of it not being realistic but the easiest to cite is 2 face

The Prestige - the twist at the end is as far from realistic as possible

Batman Begins - A man masquerading in a Bat inspired suit - a fear toxin - more realistic than the dark knight but still not as realistic as people make out and certainly more absurd than James Bond imo

Insomnia - I havent seen this film, so no comment

Memento - Probably the most realistic one, you still have to suspend belief for the film to work however, would a man with such bad amnesia really be able to catchup on all those clues and chase leads in one day? at one point we are led to believe his amnesia is so bad he cant remember who was chasing him a mere minute before.....

James Bond (especially Craigs Bond) is far more realistic than any of these films

(this wasnt meant to sound as ranty as it does, this was all written with a smile on my face)

I can't say that I wouldn't be a little excited to see Nolan directing the likes of Craig or Fiennes..

For years Bond had to fight the image of being a Superhero. Dalton's films brought back a dose of the mortality to Bond but to many people loss the spirit.

Goldeneye brought it back but as the era went on Bond became a cartoon character again ending with Die Another Day which brings Bond more into a comic book world than the real world.

All of Flemming's stories are based off a great sense of reality but extreme circumstances. At every turn of fantasy-esque events we are treated to Bond as a human being.

The films have forgotten from the books that while Bond is a womanizer his greatest weakness are women. the films make him as this sexual predator who can cast off any woman without thinking twice about it.

But in the books he laments over Vesper several times (even once in Goldfinger submitting to thinking about the joy of seeing her in Heaven if he dies in that moment) in Diamonds Are Forever he quits the service to be with Tiffany.

So Flemming always intended to have Bond to be a realistic character in a realistic world with spectacular circumstances around him.

This is Nolan, defined.

Nolan tries to have people in his films react realistically. He doesn't go by the completely ******ed mentality "In a movie with giant robots/dragons/ghosts/whatever, why do you expect the hero to not react like this?"

Nolan's premises are, for the most part, completely fantastical. And yet, he tries to see how people would react and converse once found in those fantastical situations.

He'd be great for Bond.

I'd absolutely love it if that was the situation, an added Nolan flavor while still retaining the Bond aspects.
I wonder how Nolan would go working without the 100% input?

That would be awesome. It would be even more awesome if Christian Bale was Bond!

there is only one actor who would be perfect in a Nolan Bond movie. Fassbender. :wow:

I agree with that, since Inglorious Basterds he's my top choice after Craig.

Screw replacing Craig, not even Fassbender would be able to turn in a performance as Bond as Craig. We should hold onto him as long as possible.
