Here's the teaser trailer for GOLDENEYE:

See, that's how you promote a Bond movie.

this teaser showed every action scene. this is in no way a teaser.

I don't really see the supposed Nolan influence, but even if it's there it can only be a positive thing. :D

Nolanite for life!

Yeah, it's just that TSWLM feels more like a continuation of the YOLT style than the FRWL, GF or the TB one.

Fully agreed.

They did have the same director, Lewis Gilbert, which is why both of them are so beautifully shot. I love Egypt scenes in TSWLM.

Also, TSWLM doesn't have some of the embarrasing things that YOLT, like Bond trying to look asian, the look of Blofeld, and some of dialogue was a lot more hammy.

Also, TSWLM was more self-aware of what people assume Bond movies to be and delivers on it, never being embarrased of it. And at the same time, it has a fresh situation in Bond's relationship with Agent XXX.

Okay, Parker. Where in this teaser trailer do you see any of that? All I see is "James Bond Meets Christopher Nolan." Will the actual film be like that? Maybe. Maybe not. We don't know yet. But that's the way Sony/MGM is selling it. And that's my biggest criticism. They're approaching the marketing the wrong way. This is Bond's 50th anniversary. Let's celebrate that with a trailer that's a little more... fun.

Is it the wrong way because you prefer it that way or it's not going to be successful? If it's the latter, you're wrong about it. Also, I'd say the last part of the trailer definitely makes it show that it's a Bond movie.

I say exact patience before coming to that conclusion, at least until the full trailer.

That's the 90s, and is very fitting for the 90s. It's not the 90s anymore.

That's right. I forgot dark and brooding is what "the kids" like these days. Oh, wait. What's #1 at the box office? That's right. The Avengers. The complete opposite of dark and brooding.

Trust me. Sony/MGM could pull off a trailer like that now. Maybe not with Daniel Craig breaking the fourth wall. But everything else they can pull off. And it would get audiences hyped.

You know what? We'll let statistics be the judge of that. If people get excited for this via the teaser, we'll see exactly "how you promote a Bond movie".

Just because it shows brief shots of action, it's not a teaser?

Plus, it says teaser trailer.

The teaser's getting hype already and it's not even noon yet.

I really hope you don't have any delusions that there was ever a chance that a Bond movie could break the records The Avengers or TDK before it broke. Oh, wait, what was that I said? TDK? A dark and brooding movie (supposedly not fun. Supposedly) that crossed the billion dollar mark in '08? Hmmm...

It's nothing to do with dark and brooding. As anyone on this forums knows, i'm probably the mouthiest ****er when it comes to criticising the mentality of dark and moody being inherently better.

But the point is, that Goldeneye trailer reeked of 90s. You can instantly tell that is a 90s trailer for a 90s film.

Again, are you suggesting Casino Royale is a bad Bond movie? If so, you're in a very very small and ultimately unimportant minority. Skyfall is following the same tone because it's the same continuity. Did you expect them to do a 180 or something?

And Avengers is a massive success because it's a great film. It's bold and colourful escapism, which suits Avengers. Bond can be interpreted in different ways.

Most people are sleeping right now. Whatever hype there is or was went to bed.
not in europe.

also, about your other posts, it sounds like you want every movie to be the same kind of movie no matter what the genra? how does that make any kind of sense in reality at all? Do you know that different people have different tastes an might like different kind of movies? I loved The Avengers, but I also loved Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy which is kinda the complete opposite of Avengers.

Darkman, I'm done with you for now. The movie's gonna be great, the marketing is not gonna be in trouble, it's gonna make millions at the box office, and all this complaining is gonna be for nothing.

Here is my parting gift to you:

I never even said that. Casino Royale is a GREAT movie but I also wouldn't it call it dark and brooding. It's serious. It's grounded. But dark and brooding? Not really. And... more importantly, it was never sold as dark and brooding. Shall we take a look?

It starts out with the black & white prologue, but as soon as the James Bond Theme kicks in, it gets FUN and exciting. The Skyfall teaser has none of that. It's dark and brooding throughout the whole duration. Oh... and notice how they even broke the 4th wall with Daniel Craig staring at the camera. So, maybe they could pull that off after all.

Again... we are all fans here. We don't need a fancy trailer to get our butts in the seat. But the main public, they need something exciting. And the Skyfall trailer is anything but that. MGM/Sony need to re-think their marketing.

And that's exactly where you're wrong. Did people shy away from Batman being dark in 1989, or 2005 or 2008? Do you think they'll shy away now?

What makes you think that as soon as they watch that trailer which (once again) contains humor AND explosions AND pretty images, they won't flock to watch it like they've been doing for 50 years now?
