Unless I'm mistaken, James Gunn wrote that he was sexually abused when he was younger when all the MeToo stuff was going around. I'm not a psychologist but maybe his edgelord jokes back then were a way for him to deal with it while getting a rise out of people.I know plenty of people who joke about traumatic stuff to cope with it.

Even then, he apologized and has been a different kind of person these days. To fire him now is jusy Disney covering their ass and nothing more.

Yes....he is being condemned. As I pointed out earlier.....being a director working for a movie studio is not the same as being the elected President of the United States. A director works for a studio head who has the power to fire him whenever he wants. The President is elected to the office and there are specific rules (laws) that must be followed to remove him from the office. People are currently working on the process to remove him from office while tens of thousands of people march in protest of him almost on a daily basis.

Pretty much daily. If not just harming children in other ways. Dead baby jokes, leaving them in hot cars, etc. And he used to have a television show. And he is on literally every Comedy Central roast. Still on Netflix, etc.

He's known for disavowing all comedic boundaries. If he were to draw a line, then he's basically claiming all the other jokes he made were okay to make.

That's what I respect about true shock humor.

I can't believe some of the people defending Gunn. Did you guys read his tweets. How does someone make thousands of jokes about violating children? There was even one tweet where he had a link to a 'manual' written by a paedophile. The police need to investigate him. No one makes that many 'jokes' on just one subject matter

It's controversial no doubt.

But for me, the way his comments were outed due to a feud he may have had with a conservative is petty.

Comments made as terrible jokes years prior to his fame, at that.

But then again... I'm not Gunn. I like his work. However do I believe his past transgressions should go unpunished? No. So yeah... I'm mixed on this.

Well again, I agree, but then Gunn was trying to cover his a** by deleting his tweets so he obviously knew what was potentially coming. I don't agree with the firing one bit, but I understand it in the era of "controversies"

Gunn should have left the tweets and gone down swinging. Twitter wants him scared and on the run. Take a stand and don't hide from your past if you know where those tweets were coming from. The result would have been the same, but it looks much worse when you act like you've got something to hide. He lost himself in a moment of fear.

Exactly. I'm shocked at the support he's getting. I enjoy shock comedy. Frankie Boyle and Jimmy Carr are some of my favourite comedians and they often make jokes about rape and child abuse but at least I know they're joking. Gunn's tweets were something else. The anger and visceral decription felt way too real

You can joke about that type of stuff as much as you want on twitter. Let's just hope that you don't work for company that doesn't want it's employees to write that type of stuff online if you represent that company.
