I did another manip now that I had more than 5 minutes on my hands. This is pretty much exactly what I think we will be seeing in the finished film.

Ah yes, the ol' "I can't accept that someone has a different opinion so I'll question their motives" ploy.

Those opinions always have some deep rooted reasoning behind it, not to play therapist.

Cool, ParkersPeter. The mainp got me thinking, I wonder as a villain how he's going to differentiate from the Lizard? Green Goblin/ Doc Ock were different because Norman Osborn was already mad and slightly evil even before the Green Goblin, but Doc Ock was just an experiment gone wrong. I wonder if this will be the case with Doc Connors and Max Dillan, albeit Doc Connors being the sane one who just had a bad experiment?

Yep. My (and others) deep rooted reasoning is that we've seen blue mutant / superpowered / alien character tons of times before, and would rather see something newer or more unique. Crazy huh?

this critique has nothing to do with Foxx playing the role and everything to do with character design.

Dude... what exactly is "normal" when it comes to Electro?

Um...not being blue?

Come on, how is a regular Jamie Foxx in a black suit any less "generic" than the Electro we have now?

Dunno. Don't care, either.

I guranatee there would have been even more of an outrage if he was just normal looking "Webb and Co. can't even come up with cool prosethics for their villians! This movie is gonna suck!"

...who the hell would've said or thought that?

Nothing that they could have done would have been "original"enough, because even if he was yellow, some people would go out of their way to search for the most obscure pics of characters who are yellow just to complain and say how "unoriginal" the look is.

I really doubt that.

It just comes down to the fact that some are bugged by Foxx in the role period and are just looking for whatever.

Wow.

I have no issue with Foxx being cast. I'm actually very eager to see how he'll do. My issue (and I use that term lightly) is with the character design. I don't like that he's blue. That's all there is to it.

Will it grow on me? Maybe. Am I making any kind of final judgement based off those set photos? Of course not. I'm only commenting on what I'm seeing now. And I'm not too thrilled with what I'm seeing. But that can change.

Who would have thought that? Anyone looking for Amy reason at all to either further berate the movie or to sike themselves out from seeing it. And you'd be surprise the lengths people will go to talk bad about TASM, they can get pretty low at times lol TASM has got to benthe first movie I've ever heard of that had people saying it sucked, or was going to suck, because of the lead actor's
hairstyle. Believe me, having it just be Jamie Foxx in a black suit with a few bolts of electricity sparking around his body would be a WHOLE lot more polarizing than this look, no matter if the lightning was yellow or blue. You may not like the design, but they're obviously going to go with the design that is less likely to p*ss people off, especially considering the huge negative reaction there was for The Lizard when the concept art leaked. I didn't like the way Bane looked in TDKR, he looked pretty generic, every time I saw him
I thought of Kane lol but that didn't bother me. SM1's GG look didn't detract from
the movie at all, and it's arguably worse than this design. Loki isn't anything too
special without his helmet, Obdiah Stone was as generic looking as they come at the end of the movie. Abomination was just a bald gray Hulk. The only villains that really stick out in my mind as being visually striking recently is Red Skull and Joker. At least Electro is eye catching and the crew is using practical effects and prosthetics. The only character he resembles is Dr. Manhattan, and that's it. Simply being blue doesn't make it resemble Electro.
As an added leg up, Jamie Foxx has a much more recongizible face than the actor who played Dr. Manhattan.

I see a lot of people focusing on the design, but not the actual character himself. He'll obviously need a lot more depth than he has in the comics to carry the films. I think they're setting him up to be a parallel of Peter. He's this random guy who was ignored his whole life despite his brilliance and by happenstance comes across these amazing powers. Unlike Peter though, he doesn't learnt the lesson of responsibility and didn't have a father figure like Uncle Ben, so when he gains the powers he goes down a path of depravity. The fact that Spider-Man is his idol is also an interesting twist to this.

yeah i just hope they can execute all of that well.

in tasm1, peter was looking for a missing part of himself (parents etc) and connors was literally looking to regrow his missing arm.

thematic parallel, intended by the filmmakers, yet executed poorly imo.

Yes, I agree on that. They were trying to juggle too many things in that film though and Connors' character got lost. I really hope that doesn't happen in this film. I know Rhino, Harry, and Ravencroft are in it...but hopefully they won't detract from the artistry of Electro's character and they make the parallel of Spidey aspect more apparent in this one.

Electro is blue? This look reminds me of Scrier:

I'd rather Electro look like a normal person and not be a blue mutant. Now he can't blend in with regular people or have any kind of normal interaction. Rather than Electro be some deformed monster, I think he'd be more interesting as just another costumed super human who -in opposition to Spider-man- uses his powers selfishly.

I'm pretty sure he will have the option to switch back to normal, ala Sandman, once he can fully control his power.

yeah i'd imagine jamie foxx would want to be recognisable for as much of the movie as possible.

kind of like how in tasm1 we still got to see rhys ivans after he injected himself, and we also saw a lot of mask-less peter.

I actually think he'll stay blue, since the electricity inside of his body won't ever go away.

Who would have thought that? Anyone looking for Amy reason at all to either further berate the movie or to sike themselves out from seeing it.

You'll have to excuse my skepticism.

Don't get me wrong; I'm not saying that fans aren't notorious for complaining about the most inconsequential things imaginable. However, I don't Electro looking like a normal person would've been one of those things. In fact, I would argue that it was what a lot of us were expecting.

Believe me, having it just be Jamie Foxx in a black suit with a few bolts of electricity sparking around his body would be a WHOLE lot more polarizing than this look, no matter if the lightning was yellow or blue.

Where the heck are you getting your information from? It sounds like you're just making it up.

You may not like the design, but they're obviously going to go with the design that is less likely to p*ss people off

How is that design less likely to piss people off?

At least Electro is eye catching and the crew is using practical effects and prosthetics.

I never said he wasn't.

Simply being blue doesn't make it resemble Electro.

You said it, not me. :cwink:

As an added leg up, Jamie Foxx has a much more recongizible face than the actor who played Dr. Manhattan.

And that's relevant because...?

Even when he's not blue, the dude looks like this...And even like this...

In the first design, he looks like a normal guy in a crazy suit. In the second, he has a face that wouldn't translate well to live action at all (although I love the containment suit).

I wasn't talking about just because Electro is blue doesn't mean it's Electro. I was saying that just because any other character is blue, doesn't mean they look like Electro. That's like saying Mystique looks like Beast and Beast looks like Dr. Manhattan who looks like the alien race from Avatar. The only thing they have in common is the color blue. Besides that they
look completely different. That's like saying Superman looks like Spider-Man and Spider-Man looks like Captain America because all of their costume's primary colors are blue and red. And yes people would complain if it was just Jamie Foxx in a suit. If people are going to complain so much about The Lizard not having a snout, how much do you think people would complain if Jamie Foxx looked like and X-Men from the original trilogy? That's probably what the black leather suit is going to resemble, considering it's black and probably made of leather. This looks is nowhere near as bad as the look for the Winter Soldier, who looks almost exactly like SM3's New Goblin.

I wasn't talking about just because Electro is blue doesn't mean it's Electro.

I know, I was just kidding.

And yes people would complain if it was just Jamie Foxx in a suit.

Again: where are you getting your information from?

If people are going to complain so much about The Lizard not having a snout...

That's not the same thing. The Lizard is usually portrayed with a snout. Likewise, Electro is usually portrayed as a normal-looking man in a suit.

how much do you think people would complain if Jamie Foxx looked like and X-Men from the original trilogy?

Not a lot. It would depend on what it looked like. Assuming it will look terrible, the character being blue won't change that. He'll just be a bald blue guy in an ugly suit.

I thought you just said that's not the same thing... -__-

It's not really a matter of getting information, it's pretty common to see complaints like this.

Awesome, he does look like a complete looser, awesome to see how badass he looks in contrast as Electro !

Balding with Jerry Curls...?
That is definitely what Max Dillon would look like. And I can't wait to see how the actual black costume looks.
