I wouldn't read "humanising" as "redeeming"- I would interpret it as a process of delivering a more intimate and nuanced portrait of the character. As Rodrigo hinted, this is almost inevitable, as we are to see phases of his relationship with Harley. B89 gave us The Joker as homicidal artist, TDK gave us The Joker as an agent of chaos, and perhaps SS will portray him as a corrupter of souls. If so, the emotional sphere will be engaged more fully, relative to the artistic or intellectual sphere, and The Joker will probably emerge as a more satisfactorily human animal.

Even in the attempt of humanising him, you know what he says and feels, relaying it all to Harley, is all potentially, if not most certainly, false.
In those humanising moments, he's attempting to manipulate an innocent creature into becoming a monster like him.
So, with that, no matter how they do it, Joker is pretending to be a poor, misunderstood human being. Never once losing that evil intent and nature, because there, right under the surface of his most humanising moments, it drives his actions.

I love that story. Joker on death row for crimes he didn't commit, and Batman is the only one who wants to clear his name.

We haven't seen the Joker in the context of any meaningful personal relationship outside of Batman. No matter how disturbing, twisted or tragic it might be, the Joker's relationship with Harley Quinn offers fresh insight into the character.
 
Being very pretentious, I have spent much of the afternoon with no socks on, drinking oolong tea and listening to Schoenberg's Pierrot Lunaire. The representational element of the music is clearly suited to The Joker and/or Harley, and I wonder whether it could form a basis for an associated theme. I think Danny Elfmann might have quoted it once or twice, anyway.

Just reminded me of Mad Love.

He was really selling those sad stories to Harleen. I wouldnt be surprised if a scene like that plays out in the movie.

Thank god she snagged the quinn role as opposed to sue storm for craptastic 4.
 
So what would be a cool way to introduce the Joker?

I thought Batman 89 (And as you can see I'm a lot happier) and The Dark Knight (whatever doesn't kill you makes you stranger) did a great job of it.
