I wouldn't read "humanising" as "redeeming"- I would interpret it as a process of delivering a more intimate and nuanced portrait of the character. As Rodrigo hinted, this is almost inevitable, as we are to see phases of his relationship with Harley. B89 gave us The Joker as homicidal artist, TDK gave us The Joker as an agent of chaos, and perhaps SS will portray him as a corrupter of souls. If so, the emotional sphere will be engaged more fully, relative to the artistic or intellectual sphere, and The Joker will probably emerge as a more satisfactorily human animal.
