But The Joker can be unique, bizarre, and memorable while still running a criminal empire. The fact that he has a criminal organization in place doesn't somehow mean he won't be unpredictable, or that he won't possess the characteristics we've come to know and expect from The Joker.

If anything, it sounds like this Joker is perfectly befitting of what Robinson described and he doesn't seem to be anything like a run-of-the-mill gangster.

I think it's safe to say nothing like that will happen, but I wouldn't be surprised if The Joker has some sick and twisted gags in the film. I'm also expecting his "business" methods to be...unconventional, to say the least.

In a way I look at Heath's Joker as Bond Villain Joker.

I look at Leto's Joker as Scarface joker.

If that makes sense.

Define running a criminal empire. Ledger's Joker wanted to take over the criminal underworld - "Tell your men they work for me now. This is MY city", but he wasn't running it like a business man. He was breaking the conventional "boring" rules, and bringing in the crazy and the chaos.

But nobody associated with TDK described the character as being a business man, in spite of the fact he had his eye on taking over the Gotham underworld. Because he was doing it in a great crazy Joker way, not a business man style way.

Sounds nothing like Robinson's. I think the last thing Robinson would use to describe his Joker is business man.

I sincerely hope you're right.
