I can't imagine a version of the Joker that doesn't make me laugh. Humor, whether it's dark or camp is part of the character.

Exactly. That's one of the things about the Joker. As has been stated before, the Joker should make you laugh at the most inappropriate of moments, almost in a way that makes you hate yourself for being amused by it.

Btw, that Cesar Romero gif is killing me right now. :funny:

i've never seen ceasar romero, and the BAS is a cartoon, so ...
jack was funny, i'll give you that, but he just became the joker in batman. and i didn't find ledger funny at all.

That's why I love BrBa and Mr. Robot... they both pull off humor in the bleakest of times.

I remember a tweet from someone that said that the Joker does have humorous moments in the movie but they are dark. Maybe we might get something like that spastic baby joke in Arkham Asylum.

Joker killing the Riddler with that pencil was hilarious.

Anyone who says the Joker isn't funny may just be crazier than the clown himself :o

Joker had a couple of good ones in TDK. Leaving the hospital as it exploded, and when he crashed the mobster meeting.

A scene that never gets enough credit:

When the Joker draws a blank on Rachel's name and Harvey flips out. Ledger's line delivery and hand gestures are a riot.

My favorite is the mobster telling joker "you think you can steal from us and just walk away?!"

His answer

"....yeah"

GENIUS delivery on that yeah, cracks me up every time

Probably my favorite out of those mentioned. Heath's delivery was just so perfect when he said it. I can't help but laugh every time.

Here Gambol is, totally pissed and asking a rhetorical question and the Joker brazenly says "yeah" with the straightest face ever. Hilarious.

When he makes fun of his Grandma not having two nickles to rub together.

Ledger was genius.

But on to new things. I'm not expecting Leto to top Ledger so if he does well I'm good. If he sucks I won't be salty. And if somehow he manages to pull it off I'll be more than pleasantly surprised.

lol, that's the first line that came to mind when I thought about funny Joker moments in TDK. Just the way Heath says "Grand-MA." I love it.

I like what the Cinema Guy said in his review. He said something along the lines of Leto not being better but not being worse, that they were their own thing but equally cool. Paraphrasing a bit

He did bring up something Jekecy said though. Leto doesn't have/use a wide range of laughs.

My favorite line as well. Ledger's Joker was very funny in the best possible way.

I always chuckle to myself when thinking about how brazen he was, especially in this scene:

Those responses and expressions perfectly highlight just how much of an antisocial, but loveable, prick he really was :hehe:

Heath brought so many layers to that character in scenes, where sometimes if you blinked, you'd miss a little quirk you'd never seen previously or would see again.

His Joker wasn't just a unique interpretation, or a phenomenonal character; what it really did, was show you just how much of an artistic and understanding mind Heath possessed when performing every scene. Actor and character go hand-in-hand.

Anyone who calls him overrated is entitled, but backward, in my honest opinion.

Great thing about the character is that it allows the actor so much freedom. The Joker has core elements... but one of those elements is that he is totally mercurial and unpredictable. There is no "correct" or definitive version, so it makes each reinterpretation so exciting.

I guarantee that a lot of people saw TDK just because it featured a new live action Joker. I also guarantee a lot of people will see Suicide Squad just for Joker.

The fact that Harley is involved too for the first time in live action makes the whole thing more interesting

Basically. I hated Nolan's version the first couple times but later saw how it was actually faithful to the comic persona.

That's understandable. It took me time to get used to it. It was so different on first glance, because he was, essentially, a painted terrorist, without any of Joker's comic-book gimmicks.
But upon studying him after more viewings, you do see the character and those gimmicks, just bended into a more real-world environment.
