Well I'll be...I just now noticed the Joker in the background..

I have to say I was skeptical of how they'd to a Joker and Harley relationship in Live action but they seem to be knocking it out of the park from the previews

Exactly and one of the reasons why TDK Joker was so brilliant was the unpredictability that came with a new interpretation, Joker in TDK was a fresh take on the character and the new businessman concept also looks promising.

A great man Barnabus Stinson always said 'New is always better' and I believe him.

he seems creepy af but I feel it's gonna get stale by the end of the movie

Joker is hardly going to be in the movie for more than 15-20 mins, I don't think there's any chance he will get stale as the movie goes on and who knows he might even get creepier.

It must be a gangster's only club Joker has going on, because I can't imagine Gothamite, no matter how hardcore, feeling comfortable eating anything from his menu...
"Yes, I'll take the Smiling Fish..."

Saying that, my old neighbour who lived in London during her youth, often dined at the Kray's club. She said the uttermost importance to them was making sure the customers were happy with everything they ordered and you could have a chat with them if they weren't busy. But apparently one night she said, Ronnie came in from the back looking dapper, but flustered, and when he walked past after exchanging a smile with my neighbour, she noticed blood specks on his shirt collar and cuffs... and she kept eating there.

Some people like the allure and danger associated with gangsters. I can see this Joker having an almost cult like following... even though he is a total monster.

True,if Leto's portrayal is on point then this Joker could become a cult icon.

@Killerwolf

I don't really agree. Prior to the late 90's The Joker tended to have a lot of branded henchman, vehicles, elaborate lairs etc in the same vein as most super villains. That suggests that he was able to make a success of organised crime as a business, in addition to it being something of a hobby. B89 represented this by having The Joker take over Grissom's mob, and it seems SS will reinvent this to some degree.

Apologies for a late reply.

You are right that gangster aspect is part of the Joker in "older" comics, it's just that I find that the character evolved into something much more interesting since then, and after being subjected to some truly transcending and unique characterizations in more modern comics, to returning to that approach is, lightly put, underwhelming to me. I'll never say that this depiction is not in line with the Joker from comics, as that wouldn't be true, but it is an older take on the character I am personally not very fond of. Though, for the sake of accuracy, I'll acknowledge that Azzarello's standalone (non-canonical) graphic novel, this characterization was most likely influenced by, is from 2008. It remains the same though - it reverts to the older depictions of the character when it comes to the gangster persona and is an approach I don't like much.

Still, I'm pretty sure I'll find Leto's performance enjoyable, if not much else.

This is a Joker thats been in this role for 20 years.

Not like the previous versions where they were only on the scene for a few months.

Looking forward to seeing Joker's Empire.

Wow...I haven't really thought about that.

Yep. Ayer said he worked with Snyder on the framework of things.

Also during the BvS press tour Snyder said Joker killed Robin 10 years before BvS.

Every incarnation of joker is the right one far as I'm concerned.

A bit random, especially since I may be a bit late with this or even seeing things, but I just noticed what looks like a grinning face in the engraving:

Well Joker's club wasn't mentioned in that Gotham tour book released for BvS.

I would have a hard time believing that Joker has a club in Gotham, right under Batman's nose, and is somehow still managing to escape him. Especially a seasoned Batman, who should know Gotham like a palm of his hand.

I just noticed Harley smiling. That shot just got creepier.

See I don't know why people are so worried about the gangster businessman angle.

This Joker is clearly a sick puppy. Just because he is a successful crime lord it doesn't mean that he is a straight laced, standard mafiosi.

Some of the imagery, like him and Harley emerging from the the chemical bath is just fantastic.

Yeah, just because the Joker has an empire doesn't mean he isn't highly volatile and absolutely nuts. Think about Breaking Bad, for example. While Gus Fring was cool, calculating and level-headed, there were plenty of other characters on that show who were successful career criminals and yet were complete psychos. The best example I can think of is Tuco. He was batsh** crazy and could kill one of his subordinates at the drop of a hat. Yet he was still a successful drug trafficker.

Just checked IMDB.

They have a guy listed as Casino Boss. I wouldn't be surprised if its similar to Joker (2008) where a guy owns a bar/club and Joker just sort of takes it over from him.

So we're got a Stringer Bell and a Tuco reference in the Joker thread.

Now all we need is a Sopranos character reference.
