Jared Leto IS The Joker - - - - - - Part 15

But it's not unusual for a proven director to lay an egg. Even Steven Spielberg has a few outright bad films in his oeuvre. You may have the feeling that Suicide Squad reeks of studio interference, but you must understand that that attitude reeks of fanboy denial. We've seen that before, on these very message boards, earlier this year. Admittedly, ultimately, I suppose it could go either way. At this point, though, David Ayer's word is the strongest indication of truth we have. And, right now, his word is that the version in theaters is his own.

The Blu-ray comes out late this year, probably. So we will just have to wait and see.

If this cut truly is all his own, I just can't fathom why he'd spend so much time hyping up the Joker, have Leto do all of this intense method acting and then cut out huge chunks of the performance.

It's inane, to say the least.

i would assume the test audience freaked at the violence between joker and harley and all those scenes needed to be cleansed or cut out. with that went a lot of his screen time. not even Ayer could fight the studio if the movie was going to catch huge flack for romanticized domestic abuse - because given the ending that is how it would have been perceived by critics and such. And given the current pro-feminist climate, that was a no go.

So art is getting censored now because of the political correct movement. Instead of the other way around.

I don't get it. Why is it bad to show bad characters doing bad things? When did it become wrong to show Joker acting like a wicked, evil sociopath?

In Final Fantasy VII Remake, maybe Sephiroth isn't going to stab Aerith with his sword. He will help her ascend to the ancients by giving her a flower.

hey, i agree with you completely. that was an integral part of their story. i wish it wasn't so. and i can tell you at least one GA member wouldn't have had a problem with it. my friend after I told her, thought that it would have made their "romance" even more interesting and completing then it already was.

part of the problem was that WB didn't ultimately want GA to think of these people as villains - but that they are being reformed.

The SJWminati have struck again. Now they have even infiltrated WB's editing rooms.

But seriously, it's kind of sad to hear that the Joker/Harley relationship has been neutered so much. It's an abusive one and it should be absolutely shown as such.
If anything, I think that by downplaying how messed up it is they may have made things even worse.

I mean they may as well separate the characters then if they're not willing to delve into the darker nature of their relationship. The entire relationship is founded on psychological abuse. No amount of window dressing and trying to make the Joker look like a sweetheart is going to change that.

Yep. It's just gutless filmmaking. For better or worse, make the movie you want to make. Pandering to any focus group for fear of offending them is no way to live. And so what if some people are offended? So what? Being offended these days is nothing more than a whine. It doesn't grant the complainer any special privileges. Backtracking on content is simply gutless and disappointing. Hate Snyder all you want, but at least he want all in with his tone and themes.

I would've thought they'd keep it because it adds even more realism to this fantastical world by saying "yes, domestic abuse exists in our fictional world, too. We're not glorifying or promoting it, just showing it as it exists in this context."

But no. Instead, WB, as usual, let their balls drop off. :o

If this film ends up being Leto's only performance as Joker, then I gotta say...Leto is the first Live Action Joker who put out an unremarkable performance. And his Joker is proof that merely playing the Joker doesn't automatically mean you steal the film you're in.

No, but I would presume most people never expected Joker to ever play such a small ancillary part in a live-action film. Give Leto the spotlight (like his predecessors have had) and I'd be betting on a different narrative.

Yep. And people were saying its ok for Joker to have limited screen time because it was about quality not quantity, and citing things like Hannibal Lecter in TSOTL and his 15 minutes.

If Letoker is that unremarkable, then he obviously doesn't deliver the quality in his short screen time, since so many have said he leaves no impression at all.

They cut all his scenes and i'm angry. I enjoyed when he was on screen and I hope we see him again in another movie.

Isn't he under contract for two more films already?

I believe he is, so (hopefully) we'll get an extended performance soon. I'd love for it to be the upcoming Batman movie. It'd be the perfect place for us to see what Leto can really do as the character.

Wasn't Ben Affleck quoted as saying he saw some of Leto's performance during filming and thought he was a genius? If so, I'd think he'd want him for the Batman movie.

What movie did everyone see where he doesn't show up for more than 2 or 3 scenes?

I saw SS last night and having known everyone's complaint about Leto I was actual telling myself every time we'd see Leto that it would SURELY be the last we'd see of him.... But I was wrong (until the end of course).

What exactly did people expect? He played the role I always thought he'd play, he got WAY more screen time than reading comments online made me believe and my girlfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed both his and Margot's Harley a LOT.

I was very curious about how Leto would do going into the movie but found him to be great, and even my very cynical best friend (who would fit in with SHH perfectly) loved his mafia boss angle.

came back from a showing with 5 of my friends they liked it but were mad at the lack of Joker, loved Leto wanted to see more. They really mislead people with the marketing

Without any spoilers, how many scenes more or less with the joker? Is he at least 10 minutes in the film? What about Batman?

A few scenes at best. Probably 7-8 mins tops? And Batman had 2 scenes.

Leto was weak. Both because of script and himself. Reason of deleting charismatic scenes is a riddle for me. But with these teeth he always has opened mouth, he always sighs... No, I hope now you will stop the comparison with Ledger. Respect to Leto but should be better (smile more maybe)
