Jared Leto IS The Joker - - - - - - Part 15

Saw the movie today. Thought Leto was a pretty weak Joker. I had heard about some negative reviews, but I had heard from the odd reviewer that they did enjoy Leto's Joker, they just didn't think he was in the movie enough. Which itself is understandable given their Joker heavy marketing. I just didn't expect to come out thinking that he was one of the weakest characters of the movie. I didn't hate his performance, I just found him underwhelming.

he's the only worthwhile thing going in vice principals imho, i'll give him that.
His character in Vice Principals is basically the Joker already just with a Southern accent, frosted tips and a degree in administration. Bet he could do a better laugh too.

All hope lies with Ben now! It'll be an uphill battle but there's definitely potential!

Just look at the "why so serious" scene with Gambol in TDK, or the part where he takes care of the Chechen. Ledger's Joker was intimidating as ****.

That scene, in my opinion, sums up why Heath Ledger's performance was so brilliant.

Yes, Joker was intimidating in that scene, but he was downright hilarious, too. Ledger balanced the two magnificently.

I'll never forget seeing The Dark Knight in theaters for the first time (it was a packed theater, at a midnight/premiere screening). The audience reaction to the "magic trick" was amazing. First, there was that scared "oh," then there was laughter, and then there was loud applause.

Yeah. Ledger's Joker=lightning in a bottle. I don't see something of that caliber happening again anytime soon.

EDIT: Whoops, my brain was reading Joker's first scene with Gambol, not the "Why So Serious" scene, for some reason. My mistake! But yeah, you're right. He was frightening in that sequence. First time I saw the movie, I had to advert my eyes because I didn't know what was going to happen next. A+ example of a movie building up tension, suspense, and fear without having to resort to jump scares and buckets of gore.

I liked Jared Leto as Joker. I can't think of anything to complain. It would have been great if he had the iconic purple suit at some point.

It's the writing too. The Nolans wrote him to be this incredibly intimidating figure with just enough dark humor. Not only that, everything in the movie happens because of him. He is the catalyst for everything and he changes Batman and Gotham forever.

I'm convinced that is the last time we will see a full blown Batman vs Joker rivalry until after the DCEU is rebooted. I know we're all interested to see Leto in a solo Batman movie, but that spark of Batman trying his best to get ahead of Joker will not be there in its full capacity. That's fine because it gives other villains their time to shine, but it's important to manage expectations.

I agree. I'm okay with not seeing a full blown Batman vs Joker dynamic in the DCEU, to be honest. We've seen it done several times over (and seen it done insanely well).

As a Harley Quinn fan, I'm ready to see something different with the Joker, and that means exploring his relationship with not only Harley, but exploring his dynamic with other villains as well.

I know Joker had a larger part in the story in the original cut, but the way he was edited out of the movie felt like his character was simply put there just to lead into the solo Batman movie.

So he was used like a Marvel character :sly:

Agreed. I've watched TDK several times as of late and Ledger is absolutely astounding in every scene. He steals the show, he made that damn movie what it was.

But yeah, foolish of WB to have Leto do so much and then show so little. All hope lies with Affleck's solo outing.

That's not true either.

The script. Oldman, Bale, and the rest of the cast are phenomenal as well. Ledger isn't the focus of the movie, so how can he be the one that exclusively made it what it was? The way Bale did Begins and RDJ did the first Iron Man?

It's the best performance in a comic book film and it's the most memorable aspect of the movie. Greatest Joker ever, easily. But he alone isn't exclusively what made that movie great. He just takes things to an unprecedented level.

Batman Begins and TDK Rises are proof of this ...

Leto's Joker Bieber at one point purrs like a cat and then straddles another man as if he were ready to give him a lap dance. So scary lol

Leto's Joker is VERY touchy-feely. Kinda gave me some Javier Bardem in Skyfall vibes.

Best Joker to date. These DC movies have the best performances of Joker and Batman we've seen and yet the films are muddled in SJW hate (critics) and hate from Marvel fanboys (for simply existing). It's ridiculous.

There is no conspiracy against the film from critics or Marvel fanboys. I'm a huge Marvel fan, yet I liked both Man of Steel and Batman vs Superman. Heck, I even enjoyed Suicide Squad despite it's problems. Sometimes, a nice refreshing Pepsi is good too. You're making a gross generalization on fanboys and critics simply because you don't agree with them, and that is not a good way to make decisions. People are going to disagree with you on all walks of life, and you cannot right everyone off as having some kind of bias. That is simply just incorrect.

That being said, on the subject of Leto, I don't feel he was in it enough, nor had enough material to truly make his mark as the Joker. I feel he needs a run as the main villain.

I don't really care for the song (at all) but that Rick Ross video with The Joker is pretty cool. You almost get more of The Joker in the 3 minute video than we got in the entire film haha

Leto seems pretty miffed about the situation, if his recent comments are anything to go off of.

Jared Leto is a year older the Ben Affleck. His Joker isn't young. He has clearly found a fountain of youth and decided not to share with the rest of us.

This is true but, in the DCCU Bruce Wayne comes off as older than Ben's 43 and the Joker isn't even close to Leto's 44.

Loved this Joker. Has easy potential to be the best yet in live action (the top Joker EVER and no has ever come close - Mark Hammil). All that was missing from this film was him hitting Harley. It was the most he's felt like THE CLOWN PRINCE OF CRIME. He was terrifying and best yet, I could clearly picture him hiding out in a toy store or amusement park.

I don't think that's true. I think Leto's Joker will feature heavily in the next Batman solo, even if he isn't the sole villain of the piece. As for whether it will be about Batman trying to understand and get ahead of The Joker, we know that won't really be the case because it won't be their first meeting this time, as has always been the case in other live-action Joker appearances, and I'm glad for it. You can't top the kind of first-time conflict we saw in TDK.

If anything, it should be really unique and interesting to see a Batman who already seemingly understands The Joker, knows what kind of threat he poses right from the start and to not underestimate him, has faced him before, and has a history with him and his antics. How does he approach stopping him and taking him down? What can The Joker do to Batman to hurt him and get under his skin, having already killed Robin and God knows what else? How do they both view each other and act towards each other after all this time? After a decade a more of coming to blows with each other, what will be the outcome of their next conflict? What are their conversations going to be like? So many amazing possibilities, outside of the usual "Who is this man and how do I stop him?"

I really can't wait to see their next meeting unfold.

Agreed. There is a lot of potential for doing a film about a meeting between 2 long time rivals, and it is something the audience hasn't seen unfold in a live action film yet. Unless you count the 60s Batman movie.

Batman and Joker are my two favorite fictional characters ever. These films just suck.

That song is kinda fire to me tbh
