I like how he stands and waits when they first walk up to the door before they shoot the glass

I think this is amazing art but I'm glad the concept didn't get used. Imo, what we got with Heath's Joker was perfect for the characterization he brought.

I guess Mason Verger in season 3 of Hannibal is the closest we'll get to that look .

I think I still like it better in black and white but it's a great shot either way.

What I didn't like is how inconsistent make-up team was at times though... they were way too heavy on the makeup in that last scene where Joker breaks into Belle Reve.
You noticed that too? I thought I was the only one. Not only that, some scars would be missing in certain scenes etc. I thought makeup wise he looked best in the scene where he is convincing Harley
to jump in the vat of chemicals
But like you said, he looked a lot different in the final scene. Almost ghost like, so I have to believe it was a reshoot scene and possibly different makeup people because it looked a bit off. Same goes with the makeup for the music video, looked different and really cheap to a degree.

actually, i think i red somewhere that that was the first scene they shot and that the ending we see in the movie was always intended. he was always going to get her out of prison.

but yeah, the make up there looks different compered to the rest of the movie.

I agree. I also agree with who ever said there were times the make up looked too light and sometimes yellowish.

The Joker was meh. I estimate 60% of the problem was his overall pointlessness in the script, and the other 40% as Leto's performance being uninteresting. Perhaps all the interesting content was cut. hard to say.

I wouldn't demand a recast, but I expect more in the future. Sure as hell was no Ledger.

^Meh, just saw TDK on Spike earlier today, I prefer more aspects of Leto's performance

Agreed. He worst Joker yet.

You're reaching dude.

I do wonder how Leto would have done with 33 mins of screen time and with a script/direction by Nolan.

Needed to be reigned in a bit on certain scenes. Probably wouldn't be as good as Ledger, but likely much better than he was in this movie.

this X100 i liked his performance overall but certain scenes especially the scene with common was too over the top

I don't think it's reaching to say you prefer one over the other. While Ledger has a better performance due to having a bigger role and more to do, I will say I prefer Leto's interpretation. I got the aesthetic they were going for and I'm sold.

I'm really not. I liked Ledger but especially after watching the movie again today I don't see why people act like he's so much better, it's ridiculous.

This is hilarious. Seriously that is one of the funniest things I've read in a long time.

Leto's love sick puppy, honka honka, tamed performance cannot touch Ledger's legendary performance, or Jack Nicholson's for that matter. Seeing them mentioned in the same sentence is almost an insult considering how far below the standard Letoker went from his predecessors.

It is characterization you're referring to with Leto, not performance itself, though.

I feel bad for Leto getting most of his performance cut, but from what little I saw of the Joker I do not care for his take on it. Everything from the tats, grills, clothes to the performance was uninteresting and even off-putting at times. Ledger had a great performance paired up with an iconic redesign.

Are you talking to me? The performance reflected that weak characterization. He had nothing to work with other than pine for his Harley. He had no menacing moments, no stand out scenes, no iconic dialogue. No wow factor to him.

It was Joker with his balls cut off. As a result Leto's performance suffered for it.

I agree.

Because he died. Ledger was great as the joker, but the level to which his performance is hyped up is ridiculous.

I didn't care for Leto's take, but if he was given a look and a script as good as Ledgers who knows how it might have turned out

We're not in 2008. That flimsy sympathy card excuse doesn't wash any more. 8 years later, and his performance is still as praised as ever. Time always tells what is true quality if it holds up. Ledger's popularity has. So has TDK's.

Yup, I do. I agree that lacking performance was result of weak characterization, but that would be Ayer's fault, not Leto's, that's all I'm trying to say.

I am not necessarily talking to you right now, but I did notice one interesting thing - Superman's character gets botched (well, in minds of many people, though I personally don't agree) and it's not the actor, Henry Cavill, but Snyder, director, who gets blamed for it. Same happens with Joker and everyone are pointing fingers at Leto and do not mention Ayer as the one responsible. Funny thing.
