Just watch. By the end of the movie, he'll leap into the chemicals, and come out whiter and less tattooed than ever![]()
That will be the premise of the solo Batfleck film, Joker wants to revenge his cool tattoos.

Having tatts all over his body is his way of dealing with the situation of being in a maximum security prison outside of Arkham.

My eyes are fine, thank you.

Is it possible that if there's enough backlash the design will be altered? I honestly just hate it so god damn much, it's not Joker to me at all.
I know a stretch, was just wondering if something similar has happened before.
Hey wait a second, I didn't know Joker was meant to be in a prison, is this confirmed?
I have mixed feelings on the look. I like that they're trying to do something a bit different. And I also recognise that, in a lot of ways, this is closer to a classic Joker look than Heath Ledger's TDK Joker, who I of course loved and whose look I always defended. Leto's Joker has bleached white skin, he has bright green hair and red lips, and he doesn't have some scarring gimmick to force his mouth into an eternal grin.
But that somehow makes the changes more frustrating. With Ledger, I could respect the painted-white face and the Glasgow smile as a bold re-contextualisation, a well-crafted answer to the question of, "How do you fit The Joker into the grounded world created in Batman Begins?" But here, in Suicide Squad, a world has been established where The Joker CAN have white skin and green hair, where he CAN have his classic comics look, and so the changes we get feel more arbitrary.
I'm not overly opposed to the tattoos in general. There's nothing to suggest The Joker absolutely would not get tattoos, and you won't see most of them once he's wearing a dapper purple suit. The only ones that are awful are the "Damaged" on his forehead and the little J prison-style gangsta tattoo. Because those will always be visible. I also dislike the steel-capped teeth that could screw up his famous grin.
So, the look's not perfect, but there's a lot it does get right. I'll keep an open mind.
Yeah, ***** tattooed Joker!

Oh wait...
No-one's saying it's never happened in the comics. But that was also an invention of Bat**** crazy Miller in a piece of **** comic series he never even bothered to finish.
One of the better comparisons I've seen.
ALL STAR BATMAN AND ROBIN had some of the best art in Batman's world (Jim Lee!) and some of the worst portrayals (Frank Miller over the past two decades). Ironically nobody even saw that Joker cause they didn't even bother to finish it.
Scott Snyder's Joker (both 'Leatherface' and current one) are even crazier but still 100% Joker. How far is too far always applies and there are extremities that just don't fit. Maybe 'damaged' tattoo will fit once we see him in action, but right now I'm not feeling it. Overall it's both yes and no for me, cause there are lots of conflicting elements colliding.
You know the premise of Suicide Squad, right?
Love some of the creative aspects and the distinct feel of the overall look. "Damaged" on the forehead is a bit plainly obvious. It all feels very Ayer which makes me even more curious about the film itself and all the other visual aspects of it. A more classic Joker look would have been more instantly pleasing on a first contextless look, this is more intriguing and the context of how it will work with the performance and within the film itself a big "wait and see" factor.
