what i'm saying is, marvel can have an r rated movie, as well as an r rated show with daredevil, so why can't dc have some more limitation-free r rated stuff ?

Can we go one page without a DC/Marvel comparison?

I don't think Marvel could have an R rated movie, they have spent some much time linking the movies into a neat package. The shows are gravy, if Agents of Shield was any good it still doesn't add much to the main narrative. Daredevil was all around awesome, but they put it on a platform where they can separate it from the rest of their properties. My point above was why would DC slip into an R rating in the third film in a universe that is up against 11 released movies and another 11 either competed or just announced all of which are PG-13.

EDIT:

My bad. But we are not comparing the movies, only ratings in terms of audience reach and potential box office.

Because, like it or not, it limits the projected financial success of the film. That's it. Just a business calculation and nothing more.

all's i'm saying is; DC should grow some balls if they really wanna compete with marvel. marvel's done fine with mature adaptations of their work , for example blade and netflix's daredevil, so i'm sure DC would do fine with just one r rated film , especially considering this is a film where the r rating would actually make sense, david ayer's never made a film that's not rated R, and these aren't very well known characters to begin with apart from harley and joker , so anything that's going to be affecting how much box office this movie brings in will have everything to do with will smith and joker/harley and nothing to do with the rating.

Making a good movie isn't enough?

of course it is. i honestly don't care either way if it's rated PG 13 or R , i'm just saying one R rated film where it actually fits won't hurt the DCCU in my opinion.

if anything, zack snyder'll do that job.:hehe:

Of all the announced DCU movies, this definitely is the one that makes the most sense to be Rated R. I would like to see it as well, I think it can add creative freedom to a story like the Suicide Squad. But I'm not going to throw a fit if it's PG13.

I'd prefer an R rating, to be honest. I find PG 13 hinders the rawness of it all.

But I realize that PG 13 is better from a business standpoint and that's probably what we're getting.

Marvel as we know it today had nothing to do with Blade and it was eons before there was even an inkling of a cinematic universe. Hell, it was before "superhero hype" was even a thing. And DC's been pushing the boundaries. TDK was one of the most violent CBM's of its time and the first two seasons of Arrow along with Gotham have a level of violence the seriously rival DareDevil, and they're on broadcast networks where they have to tailor their format to commercial breaks and have advertisers breathing down their necks to generate revenue.

I love the MCU. Like truly adore it. But i'm so tired of the revisionist history that makes it seem like the Marvel of today is some kinda trend setting machine. Like they've done everything right the first time at bat and all other studios should follow suit. It's like a talking raccoon made everyone suddenly forget just how uneven phase 1 was for Marvel.

If all of your dreams for the DCCU rest on it being competitive with Marvel, then sorry, you're doing it wrong. Let the universe live and flourish in its own right.

my "dreams " for the DCCU don't rest on it being competitive with Marvel, but that's clearly what the producers' "dreams " rest on .

I want Assault on Arkham levels of blood and violence.
Not getting my hopes up though.

If it turns out to be PG-13 I'm sure they'll push it as much as possible.

Really? Because all of the creative forces behind this universe that we've seen so far at least, seem to be pretty content with doing things their own way. And Tsujihara has been vocally supportive of DC doing its own thing. They obviously want to be financially viable, but they're doing it on their terms. It's not a, "Well Marvel did this, so we should do this too." sorta mentality that was oozing out of Sony when they tried to expand the Spideyverse.

Competitive wasn't the right word. I just don't want DCCU obsessing over being like the MCU, which fortunately it isn't. I commend Fox for doing the same as well.

Just deleted a whole bunch of petty sniping on the previous pages. If you can't keep it civil, keep it to yourself. Or at least take it somewhere else. That silliness won't be tolerated here.

speaking of assault on arkham, i really want joker's " i'm here , *****es !! " to make it into the movie in some sort of way.

i'm horribly designed , *****es !!! :oldrazz:

in all honesty though, i've kinda warmed up to the look.

they aren't going to make a summer dc property rated r. just ain't happening.

you could be right. I mean, they even managed to neuter Hellblazer. and I enjoyed the Constantine show.

I'd prefer R-rating as well. Not only I'm tired of bloodless comic book movies, Skwad is about bad guys. We should see them doing bad things.

hehe I loved that line. Some have said it isn't a Joker-like line.
