Jared Leto IS The Joker - Part 8

I have come to really like the tattoos. I love where this character has been taken. It holds closely to so many of the traits that I have always considered to be key for The Joker: flamboyance, vanity and narcissism being amongst them. His awful beauty is also captured- more than any other live-action Joker, this one seems like The Clown Prince, and whoever described him as a rockstar of crime was on point. The body art stems from all of that, naturally and seemlessly.

The difficulty, I suppose, is that the facial tattoos prevent him from being able to give an unblemished facsimile of the classic comicbook Joker. In part, I am content that the differences will be trifling. I do still hope a reason can be contrived for "damaged" to be removed, however.

Kind of want to see batfleck chuck one of those giant batarangs into one of Letoker's eye's.:hmm

I want him to stick one in the middle of the "damaged" tattoo, necessitating a skin graft.

I hate to go the *****e hipster route, but this Joker almost feels Kubrick-esque. I know Nolan was probably going for that with Ledger, but this one has that feel.

I'll take it back...some of the tats I enjoy...the smile on the arm and the Robin one (which I think is brilliant)...but the damaged forehead and joker stomach tattoos just seem lame to me.

Yes, and it doesn't help that he's shirtless a lot of the time so they are impossible to ignore. But the damaged one is always there, fully clothed or not, and that's the worst one.

I'm not gonna kill you...
I wan't you to do me a favour, I want you to tell all your friends about me.

Just wondering...

I saw someone describe him as representing 21st century excess, too, which I thought was a valid comment. I find myself caring less about if the tattoos are 'my' Joker or not, and just fully embracing what they're trying to do with this version. And the trailer was a good start for me.

Great post. :applaud

I have no idea what they were thinking when they decided on a forehead tattoo...especially choosing one of the dumbest on the nose words ever for it
Hopefully if he's in the batman movie they find a way to cover it all up

What do you mean "cover it all up"? Like, have him wear a hat all the time? Because if you're hoping the Batman solo film will simply erase it and pretend it was never there in Suicide Squad, I suggest you move toward the acceptance stage of your grief right now. It seems fairly obvious that WB is intent on creating an interconnected filmic universe for these DC characters, not unlike what Marvel has succeeded in doing. At this juncture, I think the forehead tattoo is a tragic miscalculation, too, but it's there.

Maybe you can hold out hope that the Affleck-directed Batman film will be set long before the Joker gets that tattoo (which actually isn't too farfetched). Otherwise, it's going to be there for the duration of this DC Universe's run on film. Or maybe Joker cuts his face off and sews it back on at some point, slicing through and stitching over his "Damaged" tattoo in the process. That hasn't been popular in The New 52, but I'd be all for it in the movies.

A lot of the peoples' reactions towards this trailer are very positive, especially towards Leto. And these are people that were trashing the look. Funny how seeing it in motion does wonder. What a concept.

THIS!

I said right from the outset that i'd wait till i'd seen him in action to make my mind up... well i'm really liking what i've seen so far. :woot:

As for him appearing topless all the time... well the clips of the Joker in the teaser/comic con footage appears to be the same scene, and judging by his 'Arkham' trousers i'd say it's a break-out, so that explains the shirtless look –*the scene with him and Harley in the car, he's wearing a shirt and jacket.

"Shirtless a lot of the time?" For all we know, he's only shirtless in this scene and possibly in Arkham.

I don't mind shirtless Joker, he looks like a cadaver. Also while not a big fan of the "damaged" tat, I can live with it because from a distance it looks like a wrinkle or a scar. Finally I really like that this time they went without prosthetic, cut-smile or CG enhancement for the mouth, and it's just Leto smiling that creepy smile of his.

The shaved eyebrows make all the difference, from "that's a creepy dude" to "Oh dear god, he's gonna eat us after he kills us!"

I love that you take one look at this Joker and immediately know he's a psychopath.

Yes, and it doesn't help that he's shirtless a lot of the time so they are impossible to ignore. But the damaged one is always there, fully clothed or not, and that's the worst one.

So we see him shirtless in like one scene so far and now he's shirtless a lot of the time?

I can actually stand the tattoos and grill, I just wish he had his eyebrows back. I know it sounds stupid, but it adds some color to his face and it makes Leto's lunatic expressions all the more menacing IMO.

Yeah, we saw him with a shirt on in his purple sports car, and we see him with a long shiny purple coat in the trailer so I doubt he's shirtless all the time.

Sure, he wears a shirt, but I think every spy pic we've gotten, has shown that his shirts are completely unbuttoned. So it still goes back to having us noticing the tattoos, which was The Joker's entire point.

Leto is virtually unrecognizable in that Arkham scene. I was skeptical about shaving the eyebrows, but now I see that it really brings out the eyes.

it's a leap to assume he's going to be shirtless in every scene he's in.

I don't think it's a leap to assume that the majority of scenes he'll be in, his chest will be exposed. Because that is exactly what we've been seeing, even if he has a shirt on.

The stupid **** we sit here and discuss haha. Shirtless, unbuttoned shirt being considered shirtless, exposed chest, eyebrows or no eyebrows. Nerds for life.
