It won't matter how good the Aquaman script ends up being - you just know WB's gonna hand it over to one of their in-house studio hacks to direct. They've been offering jobs to McG and Peyton over and over for years now.

Aquaman (if it actually gets released in theaters) will be an interesting experiment I think for the studio. Can they take somebody like Aquaman and make a blockbuster film? Like many I am curious to see what tone the movie will have. Not to mention what the costume looks like?

If WB hire McG for ANYTHING I'm ******* out.

Having Will Beal write the script is already a major drawback if you ask me. I have no freaking idea what's WB obsession with this guy is.

Kurt Johnstad is writing the other. Have faith in his maybe.

An underwater sea adventure starring Aquaman would be fun if they tempered it with balance; playing up the lighter elements but also infusing it with a dramatic sense. Just to see Mera and Aquaman on screen (maybe with Aqua Baby) would be pretty cool.

This person is working on a really cool Momoa as Aquaman drawing. So far so beautiful.

So our choices are the guy who wrote 300: Rise of an Empire and the Gangster Squad guy?

Yuck.

Yeah, not really a fan of either but at least it seems we're FINALLY getting an Aquaman movie with an all but confirmed actor in Jason Momoa. I'm somewhat optimistic. :)

trident AND the hook? hmmm.

Maybe something happens to his trident in the solo movie and he forges the remains of the trident into the hook?

Of the two of them... hell, I don't know who I prefer. 300:ROE was one of the worst movies I've ever seen, at least in the theater (that's NOT an exaggeration). To be fair though, Johnstad wasn't the only writer so, maybe it wasn't all his fault. He did co-write the original 300, which I liked. Gangster Squad had such promise but it just wound up so... mediocre. And that's a shame because that first trailer had me drooling over how good it could be. So much talent there (at least in terms of actors). Such a waste.

I think in the end that's the risk WB faces; many of their choices are not going to be popular choices and they will look at the risks they took with MOS and figure, well why not try something riskier? Thanks for posting that picture Hazarddude!

I preferred Gangster Squad. It wasn't great but the solid cast had me holding on for something better, and sadly, it just never came.

300: RoaE was dull as hell from five minutes in.

@Zryson - McG isn't a risk. He's impending doom for any studio. The guy is not a hack, he is THE HACK.

De nada!

Watch John Carter, Battlesh** and Wolverine. He's terrible in all three. He's been better in other things, but he's certainly capable of turning in a bad performance.

I've never seen the need to crap on him in Wolverine. He wasn't great but he was far from terrible. And considering how much terrible there was, by default, he was probably one of the better aspects.

Yeah, McG is terrible. I recently watched 3 Days to Kill and while I enjoyed it, it was still a pretty bad movie. I don't understand how the guy keeps getting work.

Gotta disagree with you there man. Even though he was barely in it, I still thought his performance was really weak. It seemed obvious that he was only cast for his looks.

A corporate exec from WB(with little knowledge of comics) is running DC Entertainment - basically proves Warner doesn't respect DC. They value Batman/Superman as properties but they look down upon everything else in the DCU. That's why they continue to hire 3rd rate creators on these lower-tier DC projects. Then they try to force their in-house WB hack directors on these projects. Guys like McG, Peyton, etc.

WB doesn't seem to understand that there are plenty of talented writers/directors outside of their Warner bubble. Or maybe they do and think DC isn't worth the effort to hire them.

Of course. WB cannot make popular movies, and it wants its DC properties to fail. Obviously.

WB's one of the best studios when it comes to making movies. They just have no goddamn idea how to make superhero movies not named Batman or Superman.

Hopefully, they've changed but I'm not very optimistic considering a corporate suit is running DC Entertainment.

And we are basing this on them not having made anything that is non-MoS in this universe. Why not save the bashing till after BvS and the rest of the universe takes place?

the problem with the script writing thing is the studio system. you can't write a script for these people unless they commissioning you. it could be the casablanca of cbm scripts and they would burn that ****.

i would not put it against a few people here who would write the **** out of aquaman story.

I actually thought Gangster Squad was pretty decent. Had some dark themes with plenty of corny/lighthearted Marvel-type moments to balance out the grittiness. Maybe this is the reason they hired him - mix the DC style with the Marvel style.

I Hope not. Aquaman needs to be distanced from all that silliness. Aquaman has had some of the darkest stories in the DC universe. The creatures of, the depths are obviously Peacecraftian and his current new 52 story has a pretty good, and somewhat dark, background set for him and Black Manta. It doesn't all have to be dark but I dont really want It to feel like a thor movie. I think it should come off as an epic. LOTR meets... i dont know but something awesome, maybe gladiator.
