Jeph Loeb and Marvel???

He works for Marvel....he's writing Ultimates 3 and Ulimates 4....he wrote the Fallen Son Series.....

I'm going to assume that this is another one of your asinine Marvel does this, DC is doomed threads so I'll sum it up.

Loeb likes to work for both DC and Marvel, so once his exclusive contract with DC ran up, he decided to do an exclusive contract with Marvel instead of extending his at DC. Since then he's gotten several gigs such as Fallen Son, a run on Wolverine, Onslaught Reborn, a writer of Ultimate Power, Ultimates 3, Ultimates 4, and Ultimate Wolverine.

Once this gig is up, I doubt he'll extend the contract and do work for both companies once again.

Once this contract is up, I see Loeb signing a new one with Marvel. This time as some kind of creative editor, or something. And mark my words: Loeb will be Marvel's Editor in Chief at some point down the road.

I see Bendis taking Quesada's spot one day over Loeb.

I just can't see Loeb doing such a thing because he pretty much likes DC and Marvel equally. He likes working on Batman, Superman, Wolverine, Spider-Man, Daredevil, etc.

He's also human. And we humans love us some money and power.

I think what the topic creator is talking about is the news from Lying in the Gutter this week about Loeb being talked to about some sort of editor job. this is the quote:

"I understand that Jeph Loeb is going to be taking a significant creative role at Marvel and will be heavily involved with the future of Marvel Comics. Expect all sorts of announcements in the months ahead.

Basically, if you want to do well at Marvel, sucking up to Jeph Loeb is a great place to start right now.

So, Jeph, about that "Marville 2" idea I had... "

But Loeb has already been doing that what was already stated in the LITG column

**** Loeb, let's hurry time up so Sale can come back to Marvel once his DC exclusive is up.

I really want Sale to go exclusive to Marvel. DC really wasted his talent and I really want to see Captain America: White along with other color books for characters such as Iron Man and the Fantastic Four.

Captain America: White? Uh...racist much?

Captain America: White was in the works by Loeb and Sale before they went exclusive to DC. Loeb has mentioned that he would like to work on it again with Sale.

Why must it be racist? It's ok for the Black Panther or Black Lightning to go around putting "Black" at the front of their name, but Cap can't have a miniseries entitled "White"?

This could simply mean he'll be orchestrating the next major crossover.

I don't see Bendis ever becoming EIC. He's a prolific writer, but I do not think he would want all the hassles and headaches of being in charge of the creative output of a whole publishing line.

Like I said, lookout for Luke Cage: Black next year.

It's a joke, dude.

he wrote the Fallen Son Series.....

The Spider-Man Fallen Son book is one of the most powerful, emotional books that I have ever read. I know he lost his son to cancer and only someone who has suffered through true loss could write something that real and that touching. Having suffered through a similar loss, that book really spoke to me. Loeb is simply a great writer and Marvel's lucky to have him.

Why? Just because he can write stories, that doesn't mean he can be an Editor. To quote Mitch Hedberg

As a comedian, I always get these situations where I'm auditioning for movies and sitcoms. Y'know? As a comedian, they want you to do other things besides comedy. "All right, you're a comedian, can you write? Write us a script. Act -- Act in this sitcom." They want me to do **** that's related to comedy, but it's not comedy. It's not fair. It's as though I was a cook, and I worked my ass off to become a really good cook, and they said, "All right, you're a cook... can you farm?"

Nice quote. But it's less about his ability to writes stories and more about his knowledge of the history, characters and the business of making comics. He's incredibly respectful to the fans and the creators and he's got as many connections within the industry as one can possibly have.

The guy knows his stuff, and happens to be one of the nicest guys in the industry. What company wouldn't want that running the show?

Good qualities, but it still doesn't mean he can run a business. It's a great resume if he wants an assistant editor status, maybe be in charge of a line or set of books like Axel Alonso to get his feet wet. Joe Q had his own company, Event Comics, then headed up Marvel Knights, before becoming Marvel EIC

And look at the list of people in charge at Marvel who had no business being in charge. Bill Jemas, Bob Harras, Jim Shooter...the list goes on. These were all qualified guys on paper. But did they know comic books? Hell no, and that's why they got ****canned.

Loeb is comics.

Kurt Busiek FTW!

I don't think Busiek would do it. He seems super content to do his own thing.

Jim Shooter had no business being in charge? Reread your history books, please.

Joe Q own comic company really don't do all that well. He just kind of sat back and let the everyone else kind of run it in to the ground. He listen to the the writers and artists more then he did with the fans. And then let the bills stack up until it hit bankruptcy levels.

You're kidding right? Jim Shooter was (and probably still is) an egomaniacal homophobe. Because of this guy's *****ebaggery, other guys like Frank Miller, Gene Colan, Doug Moench, John Byrne, Marv Wolfman and Roy Thomas (among others) left Marvel. They couldn't work under Shooter's oppressing regime.

He also strongly enforced the use of the Comis Code Authority on every single issue of every single comic book...unless it's one that he wrote. He knew his script for a Rampaging Hulk issue would've gotten rejected, so he passed on the Comics Code, thus turning him into Marvel's biggest hypocrite at the time. Oh, and the script? He wanted to show what gay people were all about, and wrote a gay character who attempts to rape Bruce Banner. All this, but John Byrne wasn't allowed to have Northstar come out of the closet.

He also successfully kept any sort of creative rights away from Jack Kirby for a pretty considerable amount of time. One could say that that's just Marvel being stingy, but Jim Shooter came out and publicly defended himself that it was his decision and his decision alone.

He also created the New Universe which was a failure. It was attempt to create comics for adults, like what DC was doing with Swamp Thing and Watchmen.

And the one thing he actually is fondly remembered for is the Secret Wars. But even then it's bittersweet. Shooter created it for the sole purpose of selling a new line of action figures, of which he worked out a deal to get a cut out from. The man just time and time again showed that he really had no respect for the industry or the company he was running.

So yeah...Jim Shooter? No business being in charge.
