The Avengers Jeremy Renner is Hawkeye! - Part 1

Guess they just liked the Ultimate Hawkeye look better. But it's annoying as hell that they're ignoring the shades that Ultimate Hawkeye wears; we've seen promo art and action figures wearing those trademark sunglasses, but I have yet to see an actual film clip or photo of Renner wearing them. He *needs* to be wearing those....a lot.

I agree. I don't mind that they ditched the cowl for Hawkeye, like X-Men did for Wolverine, but there's no excuse why they won't use the shades we saw in the promos for the movie. Perhaps they want to establish the fact that it is Hawkeye's own eyes and not the shades that are responsible for his inhuman accuracy.

I'd guess they haven't shown him in the shades for promos because they want to show his face, not unlike how RDJ seldomly has his helmet on.

Exactly. In the interview with Renner & Whedon posted you-know-where, Joss said he didn't want his actors' faces covered all of the time because he feels it's important for the audience to see them. That's why they chose the Ultimate look where Hawkeye doesn't have the cowl and mask.

it's a pity that whedon is as visually unimaginative as I thought. hawkeyes 616 costume AND his mask would work on the sreen with a little effort and a costume designer who knows what he is doing.
but since hey didn't even got cap's costume right, I'm glad they left hawkeyes costume ultimate and give us (hopefully) a proper hawkeye costume in a shield movie or the avengers sequel.

Maybe Hawkeye decides to be a full time superhero at the end of the movie & decides to get a costume? Eh, probably not, but a guy can hope.

Something like this would be sweet:

Eh. I've never liked Hawkeye's mask. It just looks awkward and feminine. Plus I don't know how a marksman could restrict his vision like that.

i posted this in the news and spec thread, but thought it be nice in here as well...
from fandango's set visit:
We watched one scene featuring Hawkeye fighting alien invaders on the streets of New York City that involved the hero ferociously firing his bow-and-arrow at attacking aliens – spinning in all sorts of directions, as he'd fire an arrow then retrieve it from stuck inside the body of one alien, and in one swift motion he'd spin and stick the same arrow inside the neck of another alien. Badass!

Sounds sweet. Hopefully that makes it into the film.

That just made me Giddy.. DO WORK!!!! :BA

Whedon said that it was important to see Renner's face so that you could see all of his facial expressions and really connect with him. So thats why they decided to go with no mask

Which makes sense. Jeremy Renner has incredible facial expressions. Two of his best movies that showcase this are Dahmer and Twelve and Holding.

That sounds so incredibly awesome and just made my day.

That was kind of sad. Maybe because I have a dog named Franklin, too. Renner's an interesting guy.

You could say that about any superhero's mask though, they all restrict vision, leaving them open to attack, and limiting their own moves in combat.
I would have liked to have seen Hawkeye wear something like that figurine is wearing.

Good to know Clint gets a shinning moment like that!

Actually I think the visual designers around Avengers (and the other Marvel movies) have done a bangup job. The majority of the Avengers all look awesome. Even Hulk seems to be near Flawless of what the hulk should be, seemingly taking the best elements of the design from both of the past films.

My ONLY issue in regards to visual is Captain Americas mask.

From CBM - Renner and Feige on his casting of Hawkeye:
"Avengers was the first big movie I signed on to," Jeremy Renner told The Hollywood Reporter. "It was something Zak Penn was the writer on; he's a friend. Then I met [Marvel Studios president and Avengers producer] Kevin Feige, and Zak was really pushing, saying 'You guys have got to hire Renner.'"

"I had a general meeting with him just when Locker was gaining steam," Marvel Studios President and executive producer, Kevin Feige recalls. "He doesn't just have the guts to do the stunts but also a level of knowledge and skill that's impressive. He can even talk about 'pick' points -- where a wire attaches to your body when you're pulled through the air." The scene in the trailer which sees the actor leaping backwards and shooting an arrow towards the camera is one particularly memorable sequence for Feige. "That was him, not a stuntman. And it was impressive. He's got this great intensity and is very focused."

Adds director Joss Whedon: "He's an amazing fighter -- his fight work is wonderful: precise, heroic, and you seldom have to double him. But one day he just turned wrong and his whole body shut down. He could not do anything. He was in enormous pain, and we had to shut that sequence down and shoot it a couple of weeks later."

I wish I could afford things like that. That looks really cool.

It would be awesome if Hawkeye got his own movie and could rock the Classic and Ultimates style in the movie. He could used the Classic style if He need to hid his identity.

Plus it sort of reminds me of Wolverine's comic book mask.
The style of there mask are similar anyway.

I'm not the biggest fan of Hawkeye's costume (it's still kinda cool though), but I wouldn't mind elements of it being worked into a new costume for sequels. I'm not bothered about his mask though since he's not always wearing it much these days and he's seen a fair few costume changes himself anyway.

Plus I just don't like Ultimate Hawkeye or many things Ultimate (they have the odd good idea though).
