The Dark Knight Rises Johnny Depp Talks Riddler Rumors

^^Let me also add for the record that in no way did I find Neeson for Ra's an uninspired choice.

Sometimes a good answer is an obvious one. Going left field just for the heck of it wrong, imo.

Uninspired? Hahaha. Come on. That's subjective. I found him to be my third favorite BB interpreation, after Bales' Batman and Oldman's Gordon. And considering the rest of the Begins cast, that's a lot. For me, he was spot on. Ra's is a character that can be easily done over-the-top. Neeson never did tht, and he was still cruel and determined. My favorite two scenes were the ice training and his speech about his previous life, by the fire. Two of Batman Begins' jewels, all from his interpretation and the Zimmer/Howard Shore score. For me, it's anything but uninspired.

And explain me... a cliché choice that was intented to be the opposite of a cliché? Wow, a semantics lesson. I love these. :)

Obvious casting is the very concept of "image" casting or "Hollywood star" casting. Leave that to romantic comedies.

Yes, it's subjective and no, I said 2 posts above that I found it in no way uninspiring. Meaning that I found it inspiring.

Exactly, it will be semantics from now on, which is why I'll assume you get my point and move on.

My bad then. I always read too fast. Thanks for the clarification.

Oh, and by the way, those were also my 2 favorite Ra's scenes, the 3rd being him beating Bruce right after he arrives at the monastery.

I'm not sure about Depp as The Riddler. Obviously he has the acting chops and can make the part his own. I'm just not sure if he will. Since POTC: Curse Of The Black Pearl he's been hit and miss for me. Having said that the roles I think were 'hit' he really did do fantastically well.

I know the rumors of Depp as the Riddler are nothing but bollocks, but just the fact that he's willing to do it is awesome. I'd be all for Depp on the next movie, Riddler or not.

I'm hoping more for Johnny Depp to play Joker in the future... as long as he doesn't play him as Jack Sparrow. Give him a fresh feeling, but still stay true to Heath's Joker. I think Depp has the capability. And no, I'm not one of those Depp-fans who cast him for everything. I avoid casting him in my mind for anything unless he's a "duh-yes!". And no, don't confuse "duh-yes" with "obvious-choice"... everybody thinks Depp deserves to play everyone: not true. But I do think he's a duh-yes for Joker.

Left: Johnny Depp (obvious)
Right: Heath Ledger (not so obvious)

The right picture, at first, I thought was Depp, but later realized it was Ledger. Depp has the look, and as you all know, the makeup almost completely hid Ledger's true face! Take someone who looks similar to him (Depp) and put the makeup on and you have a winner! Now all that's left is the acting... Johnny is capable, as long as Nolan reminds him "don't Sparrow-fy him!" If he doesn't do this, he can definatly pull it off! And as for the voice, Heath's normal voice and Depp's normal voice are slightly similar. Depp's is deeper, but Heath's has more of an accent (duh). Depp, I believe can pull off the Joker-sound. Hey, I can, and my voice is deep, and I'm not that good of a voice actor. If I can do he, Depp sure can.

There's only one person on this Earth I'd personally trust the character of Joker with at this point, after Heath's death and that's Depp. And obviously Joker MUST be brought back in. One movie in a series is not enough for Batman's most famous rogue. After Joker there's only so far you can go to draw mainstream interest. Riddler, on the other hand, I'd trust him with a whole array of actors, including Depp. But why cast Depp as Riddler (who you can cast someone else for) when Depp's so perfect for Joker!?

This "Heath-only" mentality has got to go... Most everyone doubted Heath (including me)... he gave no fore-evidence that he can play someone as cookey as Joker, but yet he pulled him off perfectly... Depp, on the other hand, has given plenty of evidence that he play someone cookey, but yet we doubt him because now, after seeing Heath, we only trust him. It was similar when only Jack was the Joker... About 60 percent of every Batman fan (guess-work) said "Jack-only!", but now look at what's happened. Heath has pwned Jack. Heath is not the only man in the world that can play Joker. Depp can. Maybe not as good. Maybe better. Point is, if Joker is to return (which is very much needed), Depp's Nolan's man!

See the problem with putting in Depp is that the people would be focusing on Depp too much instead of the Riddler.

like people focusing on now dead so super famous Heath Ledger instead of joker

I'd love to see Depp as The Riddler, but it probably won't happen. As someone said, Nolan seems more fond of going after younger less established actors. Though as I said, Depp/Riddler would be a dream come true.

I don't dislike Depp, but I hope he is not chosen for the next movie as The Riddler.

I find it amazing how many "reports" there are about people being cast for a movie that doesn't even exist yet. :whatever:

ya its crazy how people over-react.

not directer, no writers, no cast... yet everyone's talkin.

and the talkin will continue...until people get something solid. Until then we are going to hear ridiculous rumor after ridiculous rumor, because that's how Hollywood is. Hopefully though, we'll know something soon as to whether or not Nolan even wants to do a third.

Depp is overrated. Said it once, will say it many times before. He's a great actor, yes, but not the only great actor out there. Anytime there is a male role open up for any project with a large fanbase (whether it be a comic book movie, video game adaptation, etc) the first choice by fans is almost always "JOHNNY DEPP!!!!!111"

Regarding Depp in the Nolanverse, no. He's too old. Nolan said it himself that he's looking for younger and fresher faces for his franchise.

Seriously, expand your horizons, people. There are much better actors out there and tons more suitable for these types of roles.
Elisha Cuthbert is overrated. Depp is a great actor...the best, no but great none the less. I would love Depp in this but I am certainly not against other choices.

Howard Shore?? Don't you mean James Newton Howard?

Stop please. Joker will never be recast in Nolan's films.

Would be fine with Depp as The Riddler. Could see an amazing result.

Well if Tim Burton was still directing the movies... we'd have Johnny Depp as Batman.

I wont happen... but he could be amazing under Nolan's direction. Just need to find the right role... and not necessarily a batman one.

Please keep Johnny Deep out of these movies.

I love him as an actor, but he just don't belong here and especially as the Riddler.

Even though I don't believe Nolan would go with an actor as big as Depp (although his original choice for Two-Face was Matt Damon!)...

I think that someone like Depp could possibly the raise the hype for the next film to the level TDK achieved (not that'll be as good, but who knows?), and could help to fill the void that will be left by Ledger's empty clown shoes.
