The Dark Knight Rises Johnny Depp Talks Riddler Rumors

He'd be so boring to cast. I hope Nolan pulls a Ledger and casts someone really out there.

Am I the only one who finds the "Johnny Depp is overrated" comments more annoying than the Johnny Depp should be riddler comments? I mean, really, come up with a better excuse for him not to be The Riddler.

He's a great actor, make no mistake about it, but the way some of you are thinking he's ideal for every role is outrageous. He's been suggested for Batman, Joker, Riddler and even Two-Face once, and I don't think he could pull off any of those roles without evoking some of the ****e he did with Tim Burton.

Oh, let's be honest, you're boring.

How is it outrageous?!?!? He's THAT great of an actor.

Depp as Riddler would be rather ironic....he works with Tim Burton on so many films, but not his two Batman pics. Than again, Depp usually plays the weirdo, so he might not have worked as the suave, debonair playboy of Bruce Wayne. Also, Michael Keaton was Burton's favorite lead actor at that time after Beetlejuice. Than he did Edward Scissorhands with Depp and the rest is history.

Depp as The Riddler? Hell yeah bring it on!

Johnny Depp is just a hell of an actor, it might not be the most intriguing fit, but you know you are going to get a completely original Riddler out of the deal and you can garuntee a hell of showing from him-and also for the studios he is a safe pick because of the star power he brings

I love it. In the other forum I have said if its between Pearce and Depp, I would choose Pearce, but that is no knock on Depp he would be 2nd to only Pearce I believe

true. but at least the possibility of him as the riddler is getting (arguably) mainstream attention.

edit, this was in responce to SPIDERMAN117's post

Yah but I really doubt Nolan will listen to any Rumors. Every choose he's made has payed off in the end. So whoever he does choose I'll back it up 110 percent of the way. With Heath I was on the edge could he play the Joker back in 06 but things do change dont they. :cwink:

I don't know if this has been mentioned before here, but Johnny Depp is also scheduled to portray the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton's adaption of "Alice in Wonderland".

blah blah blah.
wait two years,
then we'll see,
who the next -
Bat-villain will be.

I'm a poet
and don't even
know it.

Riddle me this...
Riddle me that...
Who's going to face the big black bat?

Any truth to this? Has Depp really been confirmed?

...Much as I love Depp and Hoffman, I hate both of these choices. Much as I want a third Batman, I feel like it's going to be Spiderman 3 without Heath.

This would have happened if Heath had lived.

Look what happened to the franchise before...

The producers should definitely remember that.

I really, really hope Michael Caine is wrong.

So do I.

They may not be your favorite choices but I don't see how its even possible to HATE these choices.

Two of the finest actors of the last ten years-added to a cast with Freeman, Caine and Oldman who are each respectively three of the best actors out there too and you hate these choices?

exactly. but i'm not sure mr caine (which rhymes w/ wayne) actually said they where playing the characters. he probably heard the rumers some where on the web like the rest of us, and just suggested them, cuz he thought they'd be good choices.

Oh, I've no doubt there would have been sequels with or without Heath; what I mean to say is....how do you TOP him?

Either way, I'm glad you agree with me about the path of the franchise in general and Michael Caines' rumor...

It's all a matter of perspective and opinion.

I'm not denying that both Hoffman and Depp are amazing, unparalleled actors, (I'm a BIG fan of each of them,) but I simply don't like their selection in this movie. I've no doubt they could do these roles with justice-- in fact, I'm sure they'd be amazing-- but to me their casting seems predictable. I would honestly rather have someone I CAN'T see in these roles playing the part.

That's what makes a villian good and scary for me...the fact that I can't SEE them being a villian.

How Depp would be boring to cast? he's one of the best actors in world.

They'd use other high profile characters with A-list actors and use more then one of them. The Schumacher Batman films both did this.

Either way, I'm glad you agree with me about the path of the franchise in general and Michael Caines' rumor...

Agreed.

George Bush as the penguin, and Binladen as the riddler!! (altho he'd have to shave his beard for the role)if they teamed up they would be unstopable, even for chuck noris. is that unexpected enough. and than we could have charelston heston comeback to life to play soloman grundy. no one would expect that.
