Age of Ultron Josh Brolin Is Thanos, The Mad Titan

What's a "starway"?

Honestly, I think they blew their wad with Thanos a bit.

Brolin does a solid job, but this appearance of Thanos wasn't all that impressive. Don't think they quite struck the right balance of cheese and menace, though I may need to watch it again.

I almost think they should have held off, showed a bit more restraint and fully revealed him in all his glory later on, especially since there's really nothing else with him and no resolution to what happened between he and...anyone.

As of now, he kind of just feels like a random character that is going to show up again.

I do like that they've humanized him a bit, though. The twinge of anxiety, anticipation, etc. They're not making him into a Darkseid clone, which is the right way to go.

You're working off of old information. That has since been debunked. I think The Wrap might have confused an Avengers sequel to mean Age Of Ultron, rather than the Avengers sequel after A:AOU.

Boooooooo

The only way Thanos could figure into AoU is if he turns up in a stinger to collect an Infinity Stone. Otherwise, he has nothing to do with the plot

After rewatching TWS and that end credit scene, the way Baron delivers that line with the camera focus on the staff....I'm actually leaning to it housing the mind gem more. Never believed it before, but all of a sudden that line and visual just clicked and screamed something's up. I don't know, just a gut reaction after not seeing it since it first came out.

Your gut is wrong. Probably just gas

We don't know that for sure though. And James gunn has just stated that we may not even see Tganos is gotg 2. Though obviously we will

It's not obvious we will...Thanos could have nothing to do with the GOTG2 story line

It would be foolish to not feature Thanos prominently in GotG 2. He needs a lot more development before Avengers 3, and Guardians is the most obvious movie to do that.

I wouldn't say he needs more development. Now, he won't be the main villain, but I'm 99% sure he'll get a bigger role in GOTG 2 than GOTG. Personally, I'd rather they continue to only give us glimpses of Thanos and vague hints at his overarching Infinity-scheme. Then when Avengers 3 comes, it's basically ALL THANOS ALL THE TIME!

I mean, did Ultron need to be fleshed out before Avengers 2 hits theaters? That's what that movie is for. I think Avengers 3 will prove to be Thanos' true canvas, and for that, I believe a decent level of mysteriousness ought to remain.

AoU is an origin story...Thanos is already an entity
Makes little difference. Doesn't mean you need to use something before Avengers 3 instead of Avengers 3 to get to the crux of said entity.

That's the point. He's like the Emperor from Star Wars. His presence is increasing little by little each movie. Plus since he was teased in Avengers, they probably figured that the audience would feel cheated if they constantly referenced Thanos but never actually showed him.

I was thinking, what if Avengers 3 doesn't turn out to be Infinity Gauntlet? What if it's actually Thanos coming to Earth to get a stone, and the Avengers get flattened by him? Then Phase 4 is the Infinity Gauntlet saga, focussed more on Marvel Cosmic. Makes far more sense than him coming to Earth over and over again

The current casts (mostly) last Avengers film won't end with them all failing

I just hope that Thanos is shown getting a few wins/victories of his own before his inevitable confrontation with the Avengers.

So far, he's been all talk and show....yielding no actual results for his goals in the MCU.

He has yet to take make any use of his threat towards Loki for failing him, he's been betrayed by both of his stepdaughters, and he's failed to retrieve a single gem. How does that not make him look bad?

Yeah, he needs some crushing wins under his belt. At the moment he's all talk

If he isnt a featured bad guy in GOTG2 then he will be wasted in avengers 3. Heck I say have GOTG2 end with him beating them and getting 2-3 gems under his belt then gets wind of some gems on earth and heads there and the Gaurdians deciding to go after him then roll credits. They keep saying the gaurdians wont be in avengers 3 but its heading that way.

Thing is, the Guardians going to Earth needs more pay-off. Quill hasn't returned since he was a boy, he'll react

This. Then not showing him in AoU, or hardly having him in GotG2...then what? It would seem really crammed if we were to suddenly pile him into a few things.

Brolin knows one more appearance for sure. More than likely A3.
Marvel plays with words a bit, and Brolin said there are a few other films that he doesn't know yet. The biggest threat of the MCU, I refused to believe that he doesn't get fully introduced as a solidified character until A3.

Fiege said he's not in A2, but in the same interview he said nothing is definitive. I'm not saying I think he will be in AoU. Still very unlikely. However, I am not going to say that I am 100% sold on him not making an appearance until I see it, or until someone else sees it and confirms it.

After Phase 2, we have Thanos threatening Ronan and loki, Thanos getting yelled at by Ronan, and then threatened by him, to which Thanos doesn't even respond, and ends the transmission. Then we won't see any more of him until A3?

Yeah. I'm not willing to buy that. Not yet. Words are words. Hypothetically if the mad titan had a MASSIVE role in AoU, Fiege wouldn't say it.

Yeah, so far Thanos isn't really coming off as THE BIG BAD of the entire MCU. Other villains have been shown having more success rates than he has (at the moment).

I mean he lost his subordinate in the "Other", got betrayed by both Gamora and Ronan, abandoned by Gamora, hasn't managed to gain a Infinity gem yet, and his so called Army known as the Chitauri had their asses handed to them by the Avengers.

I just can't believe he's made two death threats so far, and not made good on either of them. When he killed the transmission, he just seemed petulant rather than imposing...

Would have completely undermined Ronan to have him made to look pathetic again had Thanos basically laughed him off, even with his newly acquired power. It's all very well building up Thanos, but it shouldn't be at the expense of other characters.

Yes but the way he was defeated, along with the fact that Ronan is apparently a recycleable villain, it would be worth it, wouldn't it?

So far Thanos is nothing more than a bully. Characterization is right and he is damn scary, but in terms of feats he's just a bully. If Ronan comes back, I would like to see Thanos beat him down
