July Previews 09 (wednesday comics gets a cover price)

Why? The paper is almost twice the size of a normal comic. The difference had to made up somewhere. Paying 16 different creators.

12 issues weekly yes.

price is fine to me, knew it would be that much.

If it only lasts for 12 weeks then I have no problem with it being $3.99 considering the format.

If it were a 52 week comic on the other hand...

Alright, another reason not to buy it. I'm feeling good about this. Finally kicking the weekly horse.

Really looking forward to Dance and JSA with Bill Willingham & Matthew Sturges.

I'm glad that Tempest is finally in Titans, but just who the hell is JT Krul? Why put no namers on the damn book when you can really hype it up with writers like Gail Simone or Marv Wolfman.

- I'll buy the first issue of Wednesday Comics at least.
- What is up with that Run cover?

I love it when my favorite characters come back and the first thing I see is them beating the crap out of their friends. And by "love" I mean "hate." I really hope Tempest isn't coming back as a villain.

Well yeah. Hence why I haven't picked up Titans in OYL.

-Well, I think the only one of the many Bat titles I'll be picking up is Detective. Though I've enjoyed Battle For The Cowl, I really just don't care that much about Dick as Batman and Damien as Robin. I've tried, I really have, but I just don't. I may go back to the main Batman title if I hear good things and same with Batman & Robin, but my apathy is really out weighing my interest right now.

I like Rucka and, though I know I'm in the minority, I personally wouldn't mind them making something out of Batwoman outside the lipstick lesbian who could. From that issue it almost looks like they may be setting her up against Batman mythoes inspired rogues. Plus, we get a back-up with She-Question for 3.99 (Nice to see that instead of them just jacking up the price and just saying deal with it).

-That Justice League mini by Robinson looks pretty interesting. I may get into that

-Blackest Night has me more interested then I thought I would be, but I wonder if GL and GLC will be essential reads to the story? I may still check it out, though.

-Oh, Young Liars, just one more issue to go until you're gone. The time was so short and I'm pretty sure I'm the only one who actually cared. Oh well, it was a wild and utterly ****ed, but so enjoyable ride. You'll be missed my me

-Madame Xanadu, let's hope you last a little longer.

And..that's it. Wow, I don't read much DC

From your keyboard to Didio's ears hopefully.

I'm not sure how much a draw Michael Kaluta is but Amy Reeder has done some amazing work and would like to see she and Wagner get to end the series as they wish.

Yeah, I mean if they want end the series earlier then 18 issues that's fine by me, but I've not heard anything from either about how long they plan to keep it going. Young Liars has been canceled at 18. Personally, I would like to see Xanadu last at least a little longer if the creative team wishes.

How can you have tried something that hasn't even come out yet?

"I've tried, I really have.." Riiight.

Trying something implies more than contemplating the idea of it.

I said I tried to care about the idea of Dick as Batman and Damien as Robin. I'm pretty sure that was clear what I meant even if I didn't use those exact words. Especially when I say directly after that I may still go back into the main Batman title and Batman & Robin if I heard really good things. You took what I said out of context, so fail.

is it you old friend?

Did that Animal Man cover just spoil Wally's new costume or something? Superman has gray temples and a funkified emblem so it's probably set sometime in the future, but I can't imagine Bolland just arbitrarily went and designed some kinda new tracksuit for Barry. I also can't imagine Bolland just arbitrarily making him black, but that's another topic.

That Wonder Woman cover just pretty much sums up everything that's wonderful and everything that's terrible about Simone's run. If there's anything that could make WW cooler, it's a beating stick. But then that, combined with BC and her wtf chains surrounded by the cast of the Warriors...I have no idea if it's trying to be over the top or not.

Gotham City Sirens sounds weird. Catwoman I suppose I get, but why would Harley and Ivy give a s*** about stopping Hush?

Streets of Gotham sounds fun, like Gotham Central with bigger names. I think that and Red Robin will cover my Batman needs for the foreseeable future.

Yay, more Black Beetle in Booster Gold. I was hoping we'd see more of him now that we know who he is. And written by Keith Giffen, no less.

Snap, Trautmann's writing a JSA vs. Kobra mini? I am all over that. I wonder if Checkmate will factor into it.

I'll have to wait and see how the regular JSA title is under Willingham and Sturges, though. Sturges is great but after the liberties he took in Batman's comics and Shadowpact, I'm wary of seeing Willingham write mainstream DC stuff. Jesus Merino's art is usually pretty solid, though, so that's a plus. I'll flip through their first issue and decide whether I want to give it a try at the shop.

I certainly hope that Flash costume on the cover of Last Days of Animal Man is not Wally's new costume. It looks really bland and boring. There are some other inconsistencies, as BW mentioned, so I'm thinking it's more likely an alternate reality or something.

Whoa, REBELS is an ongoing. I thought it was a mini-series. It's been great so far, so I'm happy.

Is that Artemis on the Secret Six cover? I don't know why I'm surprised, since Simone is writing both Wonder Woman and Secret Six, but S6 is the last place I would've expected to see Artemis. Looking forward to that story.

I was gonna drop Wonder Woman, but if Black Canary's guest-starring later, I suppose I can stick with it. On what world were WW and BC ever "the world's most sensational team," though?

Tao in Wildcats! It's about time they used him again. I can't wait to see what Gage does with him. Unfortunately, I'm not a fan of Moll's art. I hope it won't be too bad.

North 40 sounds interesting. I may pick that up.

Greek Street sounds cool too. Modernized adaptations of Greek tragedies could be pretty sweet, especially with Gianfelice's art.

Crap, it's gonna take all the way until July to learn about Mr. Dark in Fables? I really want to get to his backstory sooner rather than later because, frankly, what we've seen of him in the present has been pretty underwhelming. Yeah, he's a big, scary, evil dude who looks like a tiny, waifish, emo kid, but there's gotta be more to him than that.

Wow, July sounds like a huge month for House of Mystery. Can't wait for that. The story's been really, really intriguing so far.

Kaluta's art is certainly different from Hadley's, but the cover looks pretty good. I like that sketchy, somewhat ethereal style, especially for a Vertigo book centered on mysticism.

Northlanders looks great, as always.

Last Days of Animal Man is set in 2024. Says in the first solicit.

That Flash could probably be Jai.
