Its true that he has a similar visual style, but like it or not that may be exactly the reason why WB offers him Batman.

I think that Affleck would probably produce leaner, tighter movies with less gaping holes of logic in them than Nolan.
This. That is why they were aiming for Affleck. They want to keep a Nolan-y styled world, and they won't take a risk in going the overly fantastical route with JLA (Sorry, but Guillermo del Toro is not going to be offered this).

No, we were talking about Affleck on a Batman movie.

I do agree that his similar style to Nolan's would suit the JLA very well.

Look at the Argo trailer. You can get a feel for what Affleck goes for with his direction.

How can you not tell I'm serious?

Everyone else seems to agree that Affleck his a similar visual style to Nolan's.

He does have a very similar visual style to Nolan. Just watch The Town.

"You're killing me, Smalls!"

Okay. Who would you want and what's your vision for the direction of the next Batman movie?
Hm. Good question.

Alfonso Cuaron would be my first choice.

Or Paul Thomas Anderson, George Clooney, Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, Alejandro González Iñárritu, and maybe David Fincher.

It was a beautifully shot film. If only it had a better script, it would've easily been a favorite movie of mine.

Great choices, my friend, but I cannot see directors like PTA taking on a Batman film.

I think with how Nolan's elevated the genre with his films, top tier directors will be more open to superhero films than they have before.

PTA himself might be a little hard, as he does seem super selective, but hell, if Arnofsky was interested at one point, anyone could be.

I used to say Gore Verbinski is solid, but the way he seems to let his budgets go out of control makes me think otherwise.

All of those choices would be incredible. If I had to choose one it would be Fincher. Even since I saw Seven he has been my dream director.

I've always imagine the Seven script being modified for Batman.

What didn't you like about the script?

Eh, that's a studio concern more than anything. Gore is on my list of directors that really enjoy.

It was boring as hell, the characters were all rather pedestrian and unlikeble, and the movie was devoid of any level of fun, excitement, or emotional impact.

I worry that a Fincher Batman might be a bit too cookie cutter - with him now making movies en masse the past few years, a Batman movie might seem more like TGWTDT 2 or something stylistically, and I wouldn't want that.

I always imagined a Se7en style Batman movie with the Riddler. But Fincher will never happen.

I still think the first movie in the reboot will be like that but with a more fantastical look to Gotham, and a different director.

Warner Bros. could be doing a very smart thing by getting Ben Affleck to direct - they would be maintaining a point-of-difference from Marvel films, which is what they need if they really want Justice League to be successful.

If the general market perceives it as an Avengers clone (even though all good comic book fans know it isn't), it just won't be as successful. It has to have a different style. I'm not saying it has to be Nolan-like realism (that would be a little foolish given the characters), but something more like what Man of Steel seems to be going for.

A little bit less popcorn, a little bit more gravitas.

While The Town and Gone Baby Gone are excellent films, I don't think Affleck would be silly enough to make the style of JL exactly like those. What they do show us is that he can do characterisation and tension well.

maybe WB tells Brad Bird that they'll back his 1906 movie if he does Justice League. Or just get Alfonso Cuaron since WB and him have a relationship.

just a thought, but with Avengers 2 apparently getting a 2015 release. And JL might be getting a 2015 release, should JL be a winter movie?

Nah, they could easily just go head to head in the summer like TA and TDKR did.

I would like to see a winter 2015 release. But once it gets closer ill be too much of a puss so ill want it earlier. I guess a May 2015 release for Avengers 2, with a July 2015 release for JLA. Then a June/July 2016 date for Batman, or is that too soon?

That would be a sight to behold.
