I haven't seen the film, so my opinion is not fully informed on the movie's quality. However, based on the trailers, the film seems very similar to other blockbuster pictures. Logan takes genuine risk in its material, and arguably, redefines what can be done with the genre. I like it when artistic risk is rewarded, especially in an industry that generally pursues safe projects. So, if this is going to be beaten by Logan, I think the effects of that will be much more rewarding to audiences down the line (studios will be willing to take greater risk in approaching their projects). Whereas, if Kong leads in the box office, it'll just mean "business as usual" for the Hollywood industry as a whole. Logan obviously won't re-shape the Hollywood industry by leading two weeks in a row, but it would mean yet another "win" for big budget, risk-filled, major studio productions. I feel like that is very important since in the last two decades, we've been moving further away from that model.
Just trying to put this all into greater context within the industry.
