More or less haha. Maybe not so much hero, but someone who is standing his ground against the creatures that are threatening the world he loves.....to destroy. :oldrazz:
" Hey you guys, get out of here! The only one who can wreck this world is me!" lol

Not that it really matters, but yesterday morning the Godzilla 2014 Facebook page had 60,000 likes and now they're up to 168,328 likes. Warms my heart to see the Godzilla fandom rise again. :)

I seem to recall that the original had a token white dude stuck in there for American audiences. Maybe Ken Watanabe is sort of a nod to that on some level.

"Steve Martin" the white American Journalist was edited into the film when they re-worked the film for American release. He wasn't in it originally.

So could we say he's an antihero? :yay:

Yep an anti-hero, although in the form that he's just the lesser of two evils.

I find it extremely joyful that Legendary's GODZILLA has been drawing praise and interest from non-Godzilla fans, and they want to see the movie as well.

I suspect a new generation of Godzilla fans to be born from this film like with what GINO had done (Although in this case, the movie will be good), and hopefully along with it, a movie trilogy. And maybe an animated series, or anime series to follow in pursuit. :yay:

I have to admit, I've always wanted to see Godzilla Half Century War turned into an animated series. Godzilla fighting other kaiju in Vietnam and other historic events? Sign me up!

Where as Japanese actors in Japan are stuck doing soap operas because the Japanese film industry is no longer thriving.

Just saying, film roles for Asian Americans and Asians in general generally isn't thriving in Hollywood either.

This maybe wishfuo thinking on my part. But I hope they do some viral markting as to what Godzilla is. I can't help but feel that will be a mystery too.

I'm more interested in the Mutos. We pretty know about Godzilla.

I thought it was amusing that this one commenter on Kotaku trashed the trailer, the director, the screenwriters and called Elizabeth Olsen "The Other Olsen Twin who's' never been in anything". Man, ignorance isn't bliss when stupid takes over.

Luckily the other commenters took this guy to court for being a troll.

I swear, you can praise Elizabeth till the end of time. But it doesn't matter to some people.

"Oh she's the Olsen who never got famous. She must suck then". Awful people.

I've pretty much have seen all of her films and she's always phenomenal, even if the film is subpar (Red Lights, the ending of Silent House).

Not really, this is a new story/rebirthing of the great beast. I wanna know his story in this one. Is he a mutated prehistoric dinosaur? Is he a currently living creature mutated by radiation? Will they even bother to explain it?

Gotta know!

Thanks for that! Clears up some things. I watched the Godzilla movies as a kid, but I was never a fan and vaguely remember them. I barely remember him and MechaGodzilla fighting.

The '98 movie turned me off from the big guy as well. But this trailer is doing for me what the Star Trek reboot did. I would seriously buy an anime movie of this Godzilla incarnation.

The director already said his film was sticking to the original origin.
Mutated dinosaur from an atomic bomb would be my guess ::huh:

Can you get that info for me? I don't recall ever reading that. If anything I've read that he's sticking with the tone of the original.

That's what I meant -sticking to the tone of the original Gojira from 1954.
I don't remember where I read it but I'm pretty sure that's what Gareth Edwards meant. :yay:

There was that whole thing with the in story timeline referencing the Hbomb tests in the 1950s and specifically the Lucky Dragon fishing boat and the incident that inspired Godzilla.

Yeah, references. No for sure confirmation that they'll be sticking with the same origin story for Godzilla.

Not saying they won't go that route. But you never know.
