They're bugs man. This is long confirmed. WB doesn't have the rights to any of the Toho monsters outside of Godzilla itself.
I'll believe it when I see the film or more pictures of the MUTOs.

I didn't really register this shot in the trailer itself.

Will you believe it when I tell you there was a toy description of one the Mutos? The person described a moth/fly like head, with two legs, hook arms and wings.

The "Winged MUTO Monster is described as having two legs and wings. Looks a bit like a moth. The head in particular was somewhere between a moth and a fly in appearance. The creature had claws like the classic Godzilla monster Gigan (meaning hooks).

I've actually heard that Legendary licensed five monsters (unsure if this includes Godzilla or not). Now, I am leaning toward believing all the statements that Godzilla fights 2 new monsters, but you never know.

Godzilla IS NOT about adventure. Go watch King Kong if you want that. :cmad:

:o

This and the original are not. But this is the 29th or 30th (depending on whether you want to keep GINO on the list or not) film over 60 years. And the tone has varied across the years. Godzilla works in a bunch of different ways.

So, what films should I watch to get in the Godzilla spirit?

The original/

the 1984 film if you can find it.

Godzilla vs King Ghidorah gets into some crazy time travel shenangians to explain the existence of the 84 Godzilla.

I just like a lot of the early 90s films.

Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidora: Giant Monsters All Out Attack is pretty good.

Still haven't seen that one but all the suits look amazing.

Also Hellboy 3? Haha

Also I love Cloverfield, something my friends give me a lot of crap for. I will defend it to the bitter end.

The original Gojira for sure. Honorable mentions:

Godzilla vs King Kong
Godzilla vs Biollante
Godzilla vs Monster Zero
Godzilla 1985
Godzilla vs The Sea Monster
Godzilla vs Mothra Battle For The Earth
Godzilla x Mecha Godzilla + Tokyo SOS
Godzilla: GMK

Those are just a few of my favorites. :)

Godzilla vs Destroyah is probably the best non-Gojira film and a direct sequel to that film.

Once you get past Ghidora being a good guy, it is pretty good. Add in evil Godzilla, it is very entertaining. It also has a very fascinating explanation of why Godzilla terrorizes Japan.

I have a hard time calling Destroyah a direct sequel, considering it is the next (and last) of the movie series that started with Godzilla 1985, that were continuations of each other.

I think it's a direct sequel in the sense that it comes full circle. Godzilla once again does battle with the Oxygen Destroyer, but this time it took flesh form!

Thanks for the imput, I'll make certain I watch some before this new version hits the theatres.

Sure the other Heisei films came before it, but do you really need to know that Godzilla fought a time travelling Ghidorah or a giant Rose? Not really. Other than the plot line with Junior, it can work on its own.

Godzilla vs Destroyah is like the Skyfall of the Godzilla franchise. It's both a sequel to what came before it continuity wise, but it's also an anniversary/celebration of franchise as a whole.

For a movie comparable to the tone of G14 watch Gojira.
For just popcorn eating fun watch King Kong vs. Godzilla.
For a true bad ass Godzilla watch GMK All Monsters Attack.
For a highlight reel of Showa greatest monster hits watch the last half of
Godzilla Final Wars.

I personally think the Heisei era is all gold. Even Godzilla vs SpaceGodzilla :cwink:

The Showa era is the longest but has wildly inconsistent films. There are a few "classic" films of that era I find overrated.

The Millennium series is fun times too...underrated if I say so myself.

And of course, the original Gojira.
