Legendary Pictures' 2014 Godzilla Reboot - Directed by Gareth Edwards

The first film had an island culture that worshiped Godzilla. I wouldn't mind it, but this sounds like a major metropolitan shindig.

Did anone manage to get it and post a link or PM me?

BTW, is it 2013 or 2014?

With no cast announced and little footage besides a teaser, 2014's a safe bet.

The use of the Oppenheimer quote was brilliant.

If they pull this off right then they could quite possibly create a film that has the same cultural effect that the original had.

My personal favourite has always been the Heisei era of films even though I've never seen 85 or biollante( never been able to find them) and I would love a full godzilla vs ghidorah on the big screen but I can understand that putting that in the first movie would be a bad idea

I just hope it doesn't pull a cloverfield and push the Godzilla into a background character

Sounds like they have gotten the tone right, I prefer "Nature's punishment" Godzilla to hero Zilla.

Legendary Pictures better get the show on the road with this movie. I mean, the little teaser is nice, and tells us they're still working on it. BUT, Godzilla's retirement in Japan ends in 2014. Which means Toho will probably start planning ideas for a movie in 2013. If that happens (knowing how greedy Toho can be with Godzilla) they'll order WB to stop the production all together so they can have all the glory for Godzilla's return.

That won't happen. Toho doesn't have the resources to make something on this scale. Their last and most expensive movie yet, Final Wars, greatly underperformed. There's more to gain on this being a huge success than more middling earnings from a Japan exclusive release. They're probably the ones pushing for longer development on this, considering how much they hated the last attempt.

I'm with Spade.

The kanji on the poster also seems to suggest that there will be some Japanese aspect to the movie that is still unknown to us. I don't think Toho will try deterring this. I think they're probably working closely with Legendary/WB to get this to work.

According to IGN,

1) It was a proof-of-concept trailer
2) The special effects were done by ILM :awesome:

I just think its kind of nuts that the same studio that is making this is also making Pacific Rim.

They even outlined a few landmarks and things that del Toro could not include in his film due to sequences already planned for this one.

Still haven't watched the entire 1998 GINO film. Never even seen the originals. Just not my thing. And yet, for some reason, I'm excited about this. I want to find me some Japenese businessmen and run down the street yelling as I look behind me. Can't wait for this!

you should watch the original to understand what this film is aiming for

So... no bootlegs of the teaser, are there? Unless I can't ask for that here, in which case ignore it.

None that I've come across.

Well, if they don't have a cast and filming dates by the end of this year, or by early-mid 2013. I'm gonna view this movie as in development hell once again.

do you really think after the release at SDCC they would put it in development hell again if that happened?

CG Raymond Burr or I boycott. :o

I wouldn't mind King Ghidorah being thrown in to fight Godzilla.

Anybody seen bootleg of the Comic-Con footage online yet?

I REALLY want to see this teaser :(

Also, this could use a Title Change to something like "Legendary Pictures' 2014 Godzilla Reboot - Directed by Gareth Edwards"

Please Mods! :D
