BvS Lex Luthor Casting Thread - Part 4

He's allowed himself to get typecast as an intelligent asexual sociopath, though

I don't mind if they cast a black actor as long as he's right for the role, but I would prefer a white actor just for the sake of keeping up with 70 years of appearances as a white guy. However, I would really dig Oscar Isaac in the role, which I wouldn't have thought is all that unlikely since he's collaborated with Snyder in the past and is definitely coming up as a more notable actor.

Oscar Isaac would be pretty sick as Lex now that you mention him. I remember he was being fan cast as some other character like a year ago. I forget who though...

Isaac would make a good Lex. I wish Snyder had that Nolan tendency to reuse actors.

He does

Matt Frewer - Dawn of the Dead, Watchmen
Michael Kelly - Dawn of the Dead, Man of Steel
Steven McHattie - 300, Watchmen
Carla Gugino - Watchmen, Sucker Punch, Man of Steel

Carla Gugino was in Man of Steel?

*Edit, just checked IMDB. WOW, I had no idea she was the voice of Kelor.

I'm actually disappointed in Snyder for that. When you have Carla Gugino at your disposal, you make use of that hot body!

The only actor I could see as Lex is Jon Hamm. I never saw Jon Hamm for Batman or Superman but he would be great for Lex.

Yeah, I agree that he would make a better Lex than he would have made Batman or Superman.

James Spader could have been a good Lex but he's now Ultron.

But Hamm does have a good look though:

I just think Hamm has everything to be a good Lex. He's a great actor first off. He has a great charm that you need in Lex. To the public's eye, Lex needs to look like a good guy and Hamm could pull it off along with the plotting and planning against Superman. He also has a good physical size for Lex.

Come on Snyder, you worked with him on Sucker Punch. Give him a call for Lex. Hell include Affleck too. He worked with him in The Town.

It's funny because I had forgot that Funny or Die video with Hamm. I think that's why I can also see him as a Lex. He plays the handsome jerk very well.

Yeah, it almost seems like a no-brainer, given that both Snyder and Affleck have worked with him before. I can't imagine he commands a huge salary either, given that he's usually only in bit parts in movies.

Now I want to see some convincing manips of hamm as luthor.

Hamm would make an awesome Luthor, I'd be disappointed he's not Batman though :(

Unless you absolutely have to have a bald Luthor (which I prefer), then very little manip required; just find a pic of him in a suit :D

Agreed...Have him keep the hair until his transformation is complete.

wtf is with people being fine with Lex having hair? I know he's had hair in some interpretations, but Lex is mainly known as being a baldy. It's pretty necessary to his look imo.

Lex doesn't have a superhero costume, but he does have an iconic look like Superman. Black suit and bald head. You don't change those things.

That's exactly how I feel. When a character has one single visual signifier, and it this alone that makes him recognisable to most people, it is absurd to remove it.

I do think the baldness is necessary at some point, but it's okay to show a Lex with hair who becomes bald. That's been shown in comics, movies, and on TV quite a few times.
