If that was in response to me - I never "decried" JP; I was just showing that using an image of a certain actor (in response to the Denzel gif of him acting all "bad gansta cop") was a unfair portrayal of what they would bring to the role of Lex. But in all honesty, I'd say that Denzel is a better actor overall anyway.

Phoenix for Lex or GTFO.

Denzel Washington would be alright -- I do really like him as an actor and certainly think he could pull off the part -- but now that Phoenix's name has been put out there I can't (or don't want to) imagine anyone else in the role. He's so perfect for the part that anyone else would feel like a step down at this point. Denzel would be the closest, but consider me solidly in the Phoenix camp.

Just remembering all the names that were floated in this thread before we knew anything, Phoenix feels "right" in a way that I can only compare to the way I reacted when I heard Ben Affleck has been cast as Batman. Compared to all the casting suggestions I'd heard in the Batman thread before -- none of which I really agreed with or felt had all the requisite qualities I wanted in the actor to face off against Cavill -- when Affleck was cast I actually felt a sense of relief.
