The Dark Knight Rises Life after Nolan: What comes next...

That comment from the WB exec comparing the Batman franchise to the harry potter one is ridiculous. There is nothing similar. The reason there were 7 (ok 8 technically) films is because there were 7 books in the series on which the movies were based on.

There wasn't one harry potter movie they decided to keep giving sequels too they were all book adaptations. Batman doesn't have that, each film has been an original creation.

The Bond series would be a better comparison IMO.

And what comes next after Nolan? Aronofsky does. As long as he's continuing with Nolan's continuity and not trying to adapt his "Year One" script. ;)

What if Wolverine flops, would you still be in favor of Aronofsky?

I'd like a Batwoman movie. Make it like Mystery of the Batwoman, where Batman has to figure out her identity. It could be a one-off spin-off of the Nolan movies, or maybe even part of the series. She's unknown enough to intrigue audiences, who are more familiar with Batgirl. It could've even fitted in as part of the next installment, as the sequel to the Dark Knight, where Kate Kane takes up the mantle and there's a new, mysterious heroine/ anti-heroine running around using the Batman name. It would've been different enough to having Catwoman. She would also be different because she is a lesbian and wouldn't be Batman's typical love interest.

That could've been a potential storyline instead of Anne Hathaway as Catwoman, and would've used one of Batman's lesser known characters. Maybe Anne Hathaway could've played as Kane.

Of course, Hathaway as Kane is a moot point now, but we could still hope for Batwoman in a sequel.

I want a batman movie in a 1940s timeline or 50s timeline

I'm so down for that. :woot:

100% agreed, on all counts. Your apparent awesomeness has me wondering who you were before.

He'll never tell...

Yeah, a Bat-franchise has massive ongoing potential with such a rich universe to pick from, and the Bond comparisons are valid. My one concern would be the change of director from one film to the next; I, for one, would like to have seen Martin Campbell tackle Quantum of Solace, given that it was a direct sequel to Casino Royale. The shift in tone with Marc Forsters direction (and much poorer action direction) was jarring.

Yeah, similar to but not as bad as Rattner taking over X3. It's the same cast and on-going story but the tone is so obviously different that it is very jarring.

I'm not sure how they should do it. Loose continuity like Bond...or the usual superhero film type thing where they just reboot and start over after a trilogy or so. A reboot is working for Spidey so a complete reboot for Batman isn't too out there.

^^^

I've mentioned it here before but most reboots only occur in franchises that have failed at one point or have been dormant for many years.

While yes spider-man 3 was not a financial flop it did leave a bitter taste for a lot of people and did damage the raimi spider-man franchises aura. I really doubt and (sure hope not) that the 3rd Nolan batman film will end up with the same reception. So the saying is if not's broke don't fix it.

Why not have Martin Campbell step in after Nolan departs? :)

Yeah, I feel this way as well. This makes me hope for more of a Bond approach.

I love Campbell's Bond movies, but the jury's still out on his handle of superheroes. I really don't care for what I'm seeing from GL; hopefully it's good.

I wasn't aware he was doing GL! :wow: Suddenly have interest in the film. :funny:

Time to bring back Batman to the small screen while Supes gets the big screen . Id love an HBO show but Ill settle for CW if I must

You don't need HBO to get away with Batman-level content, I don't think. But I agree that it's time for a Batman series. It can be done on a tv budget, considering you don't need much more than a decent budget for costumes and makeup.

Aronofsky or Fincher would be ideal

if you guys have noticed, all the super hero films we have gotten are adaptions made for film only. i would love for once to have a comic that is 100% based on a story in a comic/graphic novel. no need for origin, introduction of characters, etc. it would be awesome to have a film be shot for shot (or in this case panel to panel) based on Long Halloween, Hush, Killing Joke, etc.

I hope Wolverine 2 does not happen, X-Men fans need a break from Wolverine and also, it could cause confusion to audiences with First Class which is starting the series over again in a very different way.

Aronofsky should come in as director for the Batman films after Nolan is done.

I don't think First Class is a reboot.

It's not but what if it turns out to be a far better X-Men film than before. If that's the case, then positive reviews and moderate success could lead them to completely ignoring the previous films.

I thought it was confirmed that First Class is indeed a prequel??,Only ignoring Wolverine 1!?

It's exciting to learn that WB wants seven Batman movies, and that we'll see something similar to the Bond franchise from film to film.

But why is seven the magic number? Is it just so it can be mentioned with Harry Potter?

Is it "at least seven"?

Why not five or six? Or ten?

A Fincher Batman film would blow my mind in all directions.

If he can't do Batman, then at least Daredevil.

I really think that DC's plan the past few years, making animated DVD movies was a way to test the waters and see if something similar could work with the movie franchises. Maybe that's what wee'll get with Batman in future installments. Various landmark stories from the comics.

I very much doubt that. The DTV has a built-in audience, the comic book fans. They can jump around with the staple arcs because we're already familiar with the stories and the canon.

The general audience may be fans of the character, but it would be hell for them to keep up without proper set-up. One of the reasons why I will forever remain a casual X-Men fan.

Have Goyer and Jonah keep writing and bring in Gore Verbinski. Mostly cause i feel like Fincher would never do a Batman movie
