So now we have a disscusion going on about which film is "darker"? And then in a a few months i'm sure it will be which one is better. Didn't we just go through this with Batman 1989 and The Dark Knight? Now we're pitting Begins with it's sequel, it's SEQUEL? How do we define "dark"? I mean I just don't get it. The stakes seem to be raised, does that make it darker? Or does dark mean that the body count is larger and the take on this one is more goth. (Lets give it an R rating!!! Lolz!)
I think it's pretty safe to say that this is truly the sequel to 2005's Batman Begins. It's another story building on what was great three years ago. Why does it have to be extremely different? Why does it have to be darker? I mean we don't want another Returns do we. I see alot of comparisons between TDK and Begins, but alot more similarities. (which isn't a bad thing)
As bad as the Joker seems to be in the Dark Knight, we'll never, ever see his true insanity and grusome personality like we did in the comics and the "dark" graphic novels. This might be based off of them, but we'll never see anything as graphic, as say Arkham Asylum.
I really don't understand the mentality here. It seems like alot of people really wanted to see an R rating, and others are determined to point out that Joker is saying f*** in the new footage that we've seen. Does that make it a better film? Believe me I hate camp, but these "tastes", I just don't get. "Let's see the Joker split some skulls.", "I want to see the Joker, kill a couple of kids.", "Does he listen to punk music or heavy metal?" I think The Joker even stated that he was going to give them a "better claas of criminal." I doubt he would want to be labled or titled with one personality considering he has multiple ones. Do we really have to see Batman breaking necks or the Joker carving smiles to get the idea that this is "dark"? Didn't Begins set up the universe that is the Dark Knight?
