Here's my advice, ConeBone: Don't be dissapointed yet. I don't see why you would when perhaps it's the marketing that gives off a tone that you may not agree with.

If you think about the trailers thus far, they only show 3 or 4 of the same scenes. And they almost involve the truck/car chase.

Think about it: We still don't know the mob subplot, the hong kong subplot, Joker's motivation (if he has one), Harvey's decent into Two Face, etc.

There's A LOT we don't know about.

So be dissapointed at the marketing department because I think it's too early to declare that the movie won't be as 'dark' as the first one.

The marketing department is just trying to put more butts in seats. If they showed a tone consistent with the actual film parents would be scared to take their children. Hence all the lame jokes.

Now, if Cone was going of trailer comparisons alone, the BB trailer is WAY darker. I don't think that's how it will be in the actual film, I think TDK will be a lot darker than BB on film, but by trailers alone BB LOOKS darker.

I mean that trailer started off with creepy screaming bats, followed by a poor kid falling into a dark well, and then a nightmare/what do you fear line, then Bruce all disgusting and grubby in some god forsaken prison cave, then Ras and him on a wild glacier and Bruce getting the $#!t beat out of him by ninjas, and this was followed up by flaming horses, maggot-crawling scarecrow face, a nearly dead Rachel being picked up by Batman, Batman screaming her name, talk about the city getting destroyed and a whole lot more shots of bats.

There was only one joke in the whole thing, and it was actually funny. Compare all this to the TDK trailer which has what, 4 jokes in it at least? None of them are funny, and no shots of bats or anything really gross like maggot faces.

Side by side trailer comparisons give the illusion that BB would be the darker film. Of course judging by what we know of the plot and cast/crew interviews, I don't think this is reflective of the actual film.

The TV spots and the Super Bowl spot and the final trailer for BB had lots of Alfred's/Fox's quips in them. Showing humor. Bats don't mean darkness to all. Me a crazy clown shooting a machine gun seems darker I guess then bats screeching.

The December TDK trailer had no Jokes in it. It was all serious, and dark toned.

I still even with side by side comparisons of the trailers see where people are getting off that BB looked darker then TDK. But oh well.

I don't think even the jokes are lame. I can't think of any besides Michael Caine's 2 joke combo" (You have no idea/much more subtle). Even then they're not bad. better than "I've got to get one of those".

Yeah. Looking at the events that happen in this trailer. This one looks like it can be really messed up. An awesome messed up though.

I dont' think so. Clearly I know many people that work at movie theaters saying they got complains on the "Why So Serious" poster, because its so dark. And scary to children. I don't think this is being "aimed" at a super young audience. They will go yes, but its not being aimed towards them.

I mean I own both posters and both rock. But if parents came up to these two, I'm sure they would take their kids to BB before TDK.

I know people in interviews say TDK is gonna be much more dark/serious. But all im saying is so far from the footage in the trailers, it doesnt look as dark or serious to me. But thats just what the trailer gives off, the movie could in actuality be darker and more serious. And I know the trailers for spider-man 3 made the movie look amazing... but unfortunitly it wasnt

Exactly. I can't wait to hear the soccer moms cry out in anger liek they did with Pan's Labyrinth.

I personally would take Nolan and co.'s word on it being far darker as the truth rather than going by the trailers. TV Spots especially need to be family friendly, no thanks to Janet Jackson and teh evil FCC ninjas.

I will personally garuntee that this film is going to be as dark and serious as Batman Begins, if not more so. Just listen to Nolan, not the trailers and TV Spots.

For trailer purposes I wish they would have picked something funnier because it sets up the tone people are expecting. In the BB trailer it was Christian acting like a complete fop saying "A guy who dresses up as a bat, clearly has issues..." after this really intense, no jokes at all, very dark and action packed 2 minute trailer. Spot on.

But all the wink wink he's Batman stuff isn't doing it for me. "I certainly hope not" "you have no idea" "psycho x-boyfriends" that sort of thing. Not to mention the god-awful "3 buttons is so 90's mr wayne" and "read the instructions." I don't think the jokes should ever be at Batmans expense, certainly not with physical humor. I mean, "read the instructions" is one step away from Batman tripping on his cape... who would want to laugh at that?
