I think the issue might be one of trying too hard to actually reproduce a realistic version of an animated character. That's certainly the vibe I am getting. A CGI version of that moving around... I don't know how that will look. Yeah, as stated it looks like the original toon in 3 dimensions... And yet it comes off a combo of cute but creepy. Which I suppose is more than in Burton's wheelhouse. Still... I think Disney miscalculated as to the level Burton would reign in his aesthetic and fixation on the "strange" when they chose him. Look... Is the pink elephants scene gonna be worth the price of a ticket? Probably. Will the rest come off as well? That I'm not so sure of given this first look.

Actual footage will of course tell us more, and in motion with some actual personality behind those eyes and features it could come off totally different.

Looks great to me. It'll look even better in motion and I'm sure they'll soften the eyes.

I was hoping we would get an actor in a costume instead of just CGI. What's the point of doing it live if half of it is animated. Just go full animation if not full live.

The people who saw the footage seem to be name-dropping Big Fish an awful lot in regards to the look of the film. A very good thing, IMO.
