Noah works for Eric. Melissa McCarthy as Ursula is a bit harder for me to process cause I haven’t seen her do anything like it but she is a great actress so I’d be down. Someone call Kathy Bates though just in case these talks fall through.

Overall I’m glad this is making moves. I just hope they put effort into telling their own version of the story like Jungle Book and Cinderella, which I think they will.

I actually like Melissa as Ursula. She’s a great actress and she doesn’t often get to play roles like villains. I wonder if maybe Disney were a bit worried about casting black people as villains? Anyway if Melissa got the gig I’ll be happy

Lizzo is making her acting debut in the Constance Wu - JLo stripper movie (Hustlers) coming this fall. Cardi B is also making her debut in that one.

McCarthy would pretty much nail the "pathetic, wannabe-diva" aspect of the character. Not sure if she can sing well, but I've noticed that there seems to be a movement toward Ursulas who can act and do a fair bit of speak singing the role.

I don't see anything wrong with Noah Centineo as Eric. I thought he was alright in "To All The Boys I've Ever Loved". Besides, Eric was never much of a compelling and interesting character. He's basically just eye candy for Ariel.

Eric was my first ever movie crush. He's supposed to be dreamy af. Noah is square in the middle of the "nerdy boy cute" category, which ain't Eric at all, imo. It's like having Princess Jasmine played by Anna Kendrick or something (minus the whitewash factor). Just...all wrong.

A lot of people felt that way about Emma Watson being cast as Belle, and while I do find her attractive, I personally think that Gugu Mbatha Raw was the most beautiful out of all the cast. Which is fine, but Belle is supposed to be "the most beautiful girl in town". It's all a matter of perspective.

And most people agree Emma was miscast, just like they would with Noah, imo. And at least Belle had a history of being "the brainy princess" so focusing on that made some sort of sense. But like you say, Eric's role is basically to be eye candy, so he'd better at least be damn good eye candy. I mean, Eric is the Disney Prince go-to pop culture reference for an impossibly good-looking person, the same way Meryl Streep is the go-to reference for good acting. He's the guy that ridiculously-handsome men like Matt Bomer and Henry Cavill constantly get compared to. They need to at least attempt to live up to that rep, lol.

And yes, Gugu would've been a much more suitable Belle, for multiple reasons (she could sing, for one).
