Live-Action The Little Mermaid

Lohan's reputation means major studios aren't going to give her lead roles in anything until she can string together some professional work without any drama surrounding her.

With all the Little Mermaid references in Wonder Woman, Disney should get moving on this film.

Apparently Lindsay Lohan wants to star in this.

She expressed interest as recently as this year. But isn't Ariel meant to be 16? Lindsay Lohan looks like she's in her 40s.

It's funny you mentioned that because there's a scene with Aquaman standing on a rock with waves of water splashing next to him and at the time it reminded me of Ariel on her rock. Maybe that's DC's strategy from now on? Knock off stuff from Disney?

Who could play Triton? Gerard Butler or maybe Daniel Craig? It's tough to find a muscly actor that's also nice and cuddly when necessary

Why get her when you get Jane Levy or even Emma Stone?

Lohan is just too old at this point, even if she's cleaned up. Meaning that Ariel should look like a teen, and Lohan looks like someone who is pushing 30 (and is 30!) I don't want wish ill on her if she is attempting to recalibrate her life.

Emma Stone is already playing Young Cruella. They're not giving her two different Disney franchises.

Lohan doesn't look like she's pushing 30. She looks more like she's pushing 40 or even over. She's looked past 30 years ago.

They should probably avoid an Andrew Garfield situation and try and get someone who actually looks like a 16 year old for Ariel

Disney have plenty of young Disney stars who could play this role. Many who are actually in their teens. I'm sure they could get one for this role.

After all, they wouldn't have cast a Lindsay Lohan aged as she is now to play in Freaky Friday as a teenager.

Love the idea of Diego as prince Eric. Definitely the sort of guy you would abandon your family for

People really want Jane Levy to happen so bad.

No that's just Tg11's usual casting of people who are too old for the role. Jane Levy is 27 and does not look like a teenager.

Oh its not just Tg11. Seems like she gets fan casted for everything lol. Hollywood should cast her in a big role already, so some fans can stop suggesting her for the role of MJ for every Spidey reboot that happens.

Might be a bit too old especially if he's making eyes at a sixteen year old

He's more suited for the task than Bill Condon was for "Beauty and the Beast".

Good point, but I was hoping for someone else. Like a female director.

I was thinking that too. I mean, it's all about growing up as a girl and becoming a woman. It's like Spider-Man is a metaphor for puberty. I would have loved to see Julie Taymor get it.

He is a very good director and I will see it but it's a shame they didn't go outside the norm a bit

The production crew for Disney’s live-action Little Mermaid seems to confirm that Rob Marshall – director of Chicago, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and Into the Woods – will call the shots on the film.

In the recent influx of classic animated Disney movies getting live-action remakes, The Little Mermaid will not be left out. The live-action Little Mermaid is being written by Jane Goldman of Kick-Ass and Kingsman fame. It will also featured music by Alan Menken – who cowrote the songs for Disney’s animated Little Mermaid – and Lin-Manuel Miranda. The latter of that pair is fresh off costarring in Mary Poppins Returns, which Marshall directed for a theatrical release in December 2018.

While Matt Bomer has always been my go to for Eric, he is sadly probably to old now. While I havent seen Matthew Daddario act, he has the right look for Eric.

Oh wow I love his smokey eyes.

If they're going younger maybe Tyler posey? At least you don't need to worry about a finding an actor that can sing

So according to this Disney insider from Instagram, Disney has apparently already cast Ariel! Announcement is bound to happen within the next two months.

He wouldn't spill the name of the actress but gave away several hints. It's a singer/actress who has played in a couple of films so far, two in particular are what made Disney realize she's the perfect pick to play the little mermaid. Her casting will make some fans angry and others will be very happy about it.

Shooting is said to start in early 2019, with the movie being released in late 2020. After casting Ariel, Disney will start looking for someone to play prince Eric.

Analyzing those hints lead me to believe that Zendaya might have been cast for the role! And I ain't even mad :) I did always imagine someone very pale to play Ariel in live action, since that goes perfectly with red hair. And there's no sunlight under the sea anyway, so it would've made sense. But seeing how Momoa looks so badass as Aquaman, I can definitely imagine a PoC for Ariel too. And Zendaya is beautiful. I definietely picture her alongside Matthew Daddario as mentioned above.

It would be Zendaya's second role as an iconic redhead, following her portrayal of Michele "MJ" Johnson in "Spider-Man: Homecoming" - but here's hoping Disney will stick closer to the original film then Marvel did with the comics in "MJ's" case, and give her actual red hair. It's a must for me.

Maybe Zendaya won't have red hair for Ariel but brown like MJ. And she'll be awkward, dry and frumpy and named Arlene before becoming the Ariel we all know.
