Disney’s live-action remake of The Little Mermaid has scored a Memorial Day Weekend 2023 opening.
there are a million black women in the music industry that are mega successful.... too bad most of them aren't role models at all..I just wish they had better black princess movies to adapt into live action.
But since they don't I'm not opposed to a black Ariel.
It will be a rare blockbuster with a black girl protagonist for black little girls to identify with.
It's ridiculously rare.

no pun intended, but I hope a tide is turned with this movie and changes direction of of the perception of what it means to be black and female. right now it just seems so cliche and negative out there...

Bummer we’ve gotta wait until 2023.
Are you serious?
So artists like Beyonce, Mary J Blige, Janet Jackson and Mariah Carey, all of whom you can trace their influence on a non-black counterpart today are not role models and are negative and cliche?
So I guess Madonna, Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga and the other countless non-black women pop stars who ****e themselves out for fame are sterling examples of virtue?
Some of you people on here are funny.
To be fair most of those black women are from a bygone era.
Right now Megan tha Stallion and Nicki Minaj are way more popular.

Laughable... you walk into any school, elementary school and you see young girls looking up to Doja Cat, all the WAP nonsense - that's what they hear in the car on the way to school, that's what they wanna sing in the talent shows and at recess.
Ofcourse there are examples of fine women, but you miss the point... totally... for a young black girl, the bar should not just be set at Janet Jackson, getting her boob out at super bowl, Mariah Carey who does anything now to stay relevant....
There are many dignified, hard working women of colour.. there are singers out there that deserve the attention of young black girls... and if this movie inspires more young girls to sing, to get into acting, musicals and performing, without mentioning their WAP, that's a positive for me.

Generalizations and stereotypes.
I am astounded by the ignorance. Any black person on here who agrees with any of this rhetoric, shame on you.
Nah. I’m good. I think black girls shouldn’t look up to them either. Not a stereotype at all. They are hot right now. Not blaming them tho.Generalizations and stereotypes.

Aladdin, which was released in May 2019, already got a poster and teaser trailer around October.
Wonder when we’ll see the first footage of this.
Don’t expect it on Friday, since the focus might be on projects that go directly onto Disney plus
