I'd have absolutely no problem with that. It'd be a nice, similarly dramatic and sad moment showing how Ariel truly has fallen in love with Eric but she's unable to tell him due to her voice being god.

To be fair, they were kinda useless and only really served to get beaten by Flounder and Sebastian. Ursula was good about doing most of the work herself.

What are you talking about? They are essential to the plot lol. They are the ones that manipulate Ariel into seeking out Ursula in the first place. Attempt to drown Eric and are the catalyst for Ursula using the full powers of the trident.
