Logan Logan - news & discussion - Part 3

Quote from that video that was just posted:

That's actually my biggest frustration with the whole X-men film franchise is that I feel like you've had all of these actors who for the most part have been incredibly well cast in the roles they are playing but they haven't really had the opportunity to shine and I feel like this is Hugh Jackman's opportunity.

Ummm...I thought she meant Patrick Stewart's Xavier. Or that quote also probably would've worked for the other OT cast members too.

But Hugh Jackman? Really? We're going into this revisionist history that Hugh Jackman wasn't given the opportunity to be the star of the movies he's featured in and that he hasn't been pointed out in reviews and by most fans as shining in the role? He was lauded for his performance in X-men, X2, First Class (!), and some reviewers even pointed to how they were able to give Hugh a different type of Wolverine role for DOFP.

Why can't people praise this Logan movie without trampling on the movies that came before it?

This goes back to the issue earlier where the Logan scene in the forest in the trailers is better than the X3 one? Even when people simply say it reminds them of it.

I don't think anyone but Jim is trying to revise any history. And even then, he probably just means he wants take Logan even deeper than before.

Huh? What's going on in here. Nobody needs to crap on any X-Men movie that isn't TLS or WO.

Logan is the culmination of the years that Hugh put into this. Fox finally let the guy do what he wanted to do with Mangold.

Don't ruin it by crapping on other movies. It's a celebration *****es.

By revisionist history I meant in that "fangirl's" mind.

It's a fact fact (and not an alternative fact) that Hugh Jackman was given every opportunity as Wolverine. What? Did she want Hugh to be in all 104 minutes of the 104 minute run time of X-men? All 134 minutes of X2?

And in most cases Hugh has shined in that role.

What? I'm agreeing with you "'breh"

Rewatch the video that was posted.

My bad, I didn't watch the clip and thought it was another interview with Jim, which I've basically all watched. Yes, you're right. She's making a silly point.

I am excited for Patrick's performance however. It's a rare opportunity to do something new and different again after the FC cast has added their own stamps to the character. And from the sound of it, Jim seems to have drawn a great performance out of Patrick.

Apparently Xavier's powers are affecting the world. So I'm guessing James Mangold at last knew about the power upgrade he got in Apocalypse.
He didn't even know there was a Caliban in Apocalypse, how would he know that?

You could always watch the MCU though.

Are you implying that Caliban was a major plot point like Xavier's powers being able to control the world?

Caliban had a very small part in the film and was probably added in late in the script like Psylocke was. While Apocalypse upgrading Chuck's powers was in earlier drafts but with him as a horsemen.

It doesn't really matter whether its a small or big plot point, or whether it was in earlier drafts -- Mangold already said these things aren't really coordinated.

No, he said that it's not as coordinative as people think. Film makers are aware on some level about what is going on in other films. Like how Deadpool alluded to the mansion blowing in Apocalypse.

Hugh has certainly been given ample screen time and has proven time and time again thay he's a great Wolverine. I do however think there's a case to be made that the films have never really done a great job at really high lighting the themes that make Wolverine such an interesting character, the battle between beast and man, chaos and order etc. Origins did a lot of talking about that without ever examining it.
We've always gotten a somewhat watered down version of Wolverine.

That said, he's still clearly gotten the most screen time and attention. I just don't think that time has always been used to the best of its ability.

I wonder why it wasn't in the full trailer... It was done a while ago?

Has anyone, who was lucky enough to nab one the 1,974 postcards, actually received theirs yet? I got an email like 2 weeks ago saying it was on its way, and haven't seen it yet. :csad:
