Now that time has lapsed and we've seen what Marvel has...."done" to Spidey since then (unmasking himself, punching Cap America in the face....being a complete tool) was this story so bad? If so, were there any parts that were good and at least captured the character? Is it bad that we have to return to *this* story because of what Marvel is doing to Spidey now?

The "other" has zero redeeming quality....nada......the Unmasking of Spider-man was a monumentally better idea than the spider-god in comparison....and I'm no friend of the unmasking :)

The Unmasking has some good things coming out of it. Don't get me wrong, I don't agree with it at all and I feel it's really out of character but I'm not blind. There are alot of pretty interesting stories that could come from it for a while before Marvel decides to retconn it which we all know is coming.

There are NO GOOD points from "The Other" at all.

It was a complete waste of time.

The Unmasking of Spider-man was just a way to bring back old villains for more stories without having them be there for no reason

12 issues to tell a story that didn't go anywhere until the last four issues? Ehhh.... "The Other" is still bad. Stretched, pointless storytelling that took way too long to get absolutely nowhere, and when it finally moved, it moved somewhere highly disagreeable.

There was one thing good about The Other.

His name was Mike Wieringo's pencil.

Two things that were horrendous about The Other...

Wasting Peter David on filler chapters (and subesquently transforming him into Quesada's yes-man apparently)

Reginald Hudlin.

The Other was a major accomplishment in the Marvel Universe.

The Other....how can I put it gently...?

If you were to find the puzzle-box from Hellraiser, and you were a die-hard Spidey-fan, and you opened the box, the Cenaphites would use "The Other", "Sins Past" and pictures of the Iron Spidey suit to torment you for a few hundred years before actually torturing you.

That's how bad "The Other" was.

Like CConn said, 'Ringo's pencils were the only good thing in there. Well, Deodato's pencils were good, too, but both of them were negated by the horror that is PAT LEE. That man is terrible.

Simply put, The Other is the single worst Spider-man story I have ever read. It was overly long, but that was the least of it's problems. The way I see it, it's like nails on a chalkboard that goes on for a long time. It's still torture no matter how long it goes on for.

The story didn't even need telling. It attempted to push Spidey in a direction it shouldn't have gone. It had Reggie Hudlin and Pat Lee who I cannot believe can find employment in the comics industry. It was simply a pile of poo. Marvel thought the fans would go for it, they should know the fans better by now.

Looking back now...??

Uh.....It's not like it has been years now or something.....it's still fresh, yet revolting and moldy....leaving a very rancid taste in one's mouth.

Let's not bother to look back at the new costume or the unmasking quite yet either. :O

Yeah, it showed that **** comics can still sell in the top 10.

WHAT IF: SPIDER-MAN: THE OTHER
Written by Peter David
Penciled by Koi Pham
Cover by Mark Brooks
In "The Other," Peter Parker returned from the dead and embraced his "inner spider.” But WHAT IF the detente that was reached between man and arachnid had not ended there? What if the man known as Peter Parker had been completely consumed by his inner, bestial impulses, and became more spider than man?
32 PGS

Great.....I thought Peter gave into the Spider when he embraced his inner Spider-God and ate a guy's f(*&*ing head. That's just me, right?

Cool cover, though.

So let me get this straight...

They have taken THE most HATED part of a HATED story, EXPANDED on it, and paid to have it printed...

I really don't know what to say about that... :(

I guess I'm just surprized they didn't get Pat Lee to draw it.

Oy yoy yoy....

Basically they're putting out a real What-If story....of what should have been a What-If story.

And looky...Peter David is writing it.

EXACTLY.

I felt like I needed BRAIN FLOSS after I read it and I certainly don't want to "look back."

The only thing I embraced from the arc was Deodato's art. In fact... in the course of exchanging posts with Deo (another board) he did something VERY cool. He sent me a high res scan of what is probably my favorite cover - ASM 528. It seriously gave me goosebumps.

I played with the color some and now have a couple of beautiful 10 x 15 photo enlargements. I'm hanging one in my study, right after I get them signed... Just can't decide between the blue or the red... :)

I just know ya'll will change your mind once you see this...

Cool covers do not good books make.

Look, this guy is the first person to draw the white squares on the hands in at least 4 years!!

Shame the colorist didn't notice that......

I know....

What is up with that? Is there something shameful about Spidey having white pathes on his hands, while he's currently wearing golden spats on his current costume?!

Argh...

I prefer not to look back at the other, I want to keep my dinner inside me after all.
