Comics Looking back at....THE OTHER

Brains are very nutritious.

I kind of like the Head-eating-brain-sucking-cocoon-busting Pete. Or whoever he really is.

Wait, I've figured it out. Pete's really the great weaver in human/spider hybrid form! And can't the 'great weaver' at least come up with a name? Sheesh, you'd think after centuries of doodling on a web he could do better.

Though it should be best left in another thread...if there ever comes a day when Peter becomes a 'spider pariah', I would drop Marvel.

I mean, any more than he already is. :(

Maybe Joey Q. is slowly trying to turn Spider-Man into Shelob from Lord of the Rings?

Then MJ would WANT to leave him.

And REAL SPIDERS don't need secret identities!!!

So there!:)

It was a rather pompous response to the fanbase, though- they made it seem like they were forced to do so under massive pressure. If anything Quesada and JMS' run make me feel like they hate the fanbase for even speaking up on the matter.

Very true. Because it proved that the fans were more on top of editoral mistakes than Marvel was, despite the fact "The Other: Evolve or Die" involved three different writers, six different artists, and numerous editors--including Joe Q himself--and it took us "lowly, insignificant" fans, who they take so much for granted, to point out their mistake. One cannot help but smile over the fact that the "ametuers" owned the "professionals" at that brief moment.

The Other is simply a story written to be "hey it'd be cool to do a Death of Spider-Man story" but then they go "Let's bring him back" and JMS is like "I have a great idea, let's take my classic story arc that is about to go down as one of the great Spider-Man sagas and just rape it by tacking on this Death of Spider-Man act to the mysticism, destroying my earlier work, including my best new villain Morlun, all so we can bring him back in a lame way with new powers."

I have to say that the early issues when it is just Pete and MJ dealing with it are quite good, in fact Peter and MJ as a couple are written VERY WELL throughout the entire story (probably the best thing about it) but then it has stupid tangents like "Dr. Doom's time machine" or getting the Hulk and Black Panther to help. The death issue outside of the head eating those two issues were quite well done.

Which brings me to my point. In those two issues Peter Parker died. What we have now is a mere imposter which explains why the story is so crappy now.

A quiet night in Avengers mansion. Pete and MJ are resting. Or so it seems, because Peter can't sleep. He wakes up his wife.

Pete: "MJ I have to tell you something."

MJ: "Hmm? Peter, it's three in the morning."

Pete: "I know, but I'm hungry."

(shrugs) MJ: "So go get something from the fridge. You woke me up for that?"

Pete: (licks lips) "No, what I want isn't in the fridge. I...I've got a craving..."

MJ: (wide awake now) "Pete, you're scaring me. What's going on?"

Pete: (grins with fangs, lurching at her) "I want a BRAAAAINN..."

MJ: (tries to escape) "NOOOOOOoooo..."

*Slurp!*

Pete: (leaves headless wife in bedroom) "Not bad for an appetizer. Now for Aunt May."

***************

COMING SOON TO THEATRES NEAR YOU. THE MEGA TRANSFORMED PETER PARKER AND SWAMP THING...THEY LURCH...THEY ACT CREEPY AND EAT BRAINS...TASTE THE HORROR, FEEL THE FEAR! OF...

Headsuckers from OUTER SPACE!

'That brief moment' my arse. We own them pretty much every time a Spider-man comic comes out these days.

(And by 'we' I mean most of you, as I rarely vocalise my unhappiness with the current direction - not because i'm lazy or couldn't care, but because... well... darn it, you guys just do a much better job of verbalising my thoughts.) :D
