Comics Looking back at....THE OTHER

Peter Parker ate some dude's head.

God I hate Marvel.

The spider digs 'head' games. But don't worry, in the WHAT IF version Pete will eat feet. Now say that fast three times

PETE WILL EAT FEET
PETE WILL EAT FEET
PETE WILL EAT FEET:eek:

After Peter finally beat Morlun, he was finally able to... get ahead in life.

I actually didn't really care about the whole Pete acting Spider-like and eating Morlun's head thing.

It was just a boring, poorly written story. If the Spider-Totem stuff was a good read then I wouldn't care about the changes. But it isn't. Radiation, Spider-Gods, whatever...it doesn't change who Peter Parker is and what he will be doing in the future (when was the last time we saw stingers and impact webbing? Spider-Girl) as long as I'm captivated by what I'm reading and it rings true to me. But it doesn't. It's just shock and awe for the sake of it.

You know it's a crummy story when the coolest thing about it are the gimmicky variant covers.

Why does eveyone keep saying he ate his head?
He clearly sucked his brains out,but he didn't eat his head.
Anyway, I wouldn't say the Other was a horrible story. I mean the issues with the tracer were really good(even though they had nothing to do with the overall plot). I'd say it was primarily boring. And the only thing that pissed me off was those horrible horrible stingers and the fact that spiderman died.
I mean marvel really f'ed up on the stingers concept. Spiderman doesn't kill. End of story. The death PO'd me because it was one of the worst character deaths ever. And had no shock value nor was it dramatic. It sucked. And was in a 12 part series that sucked. The other also left several questions in the air. Too many infact to list. In the end though the Other was pretty bad, I still say it is better than Sins past. A story that literally influenced me to kill people.......

....luckly I can overcome influences easily.;)

I've heard about taking a bite out of crime, but what Peter did to Morlun was ridiculous.

well, as long as he didn't eat his head, I guess there's no problem with sucking his brain out. :D

Could have been a great story but on the whole it was poorly executed, was too long, and many plot threads were largely unresolved. Now, I don't mind unresolved plot threads (the central conceit of writing a comic being that a new writer can pick and choose from unresolved threads to write a compelling and rich story) but for this story, which was blatantly marketed as being 'self contained' it's clear that there was no real resolution planned.

'The Other' in the cocoon at the end? Unresolved.

The affliction being the result of a curse? Unresolved.

Heightened Spidey sense? Under-utilised (and IMO unresolved)

I'm sure there's more. And, in response to JQ's standard response of 'Wait and see' , i'm afraid there's only so many times that excuse works before it becomes a pure cop-out.

Yeah, they might as well just give him the mark of kaine while they're at it.

I pretend Lizard stories are done, and yes for the record "evil" Conners turns Billy into a mini-Lizard and a cop shoots and kills him.

Er...Billy is still alive.

At least, he is as of the end of "Feral." Spider-Man rushed him to the Fantastic Four and they patched him up.

Oh....but it didn't happen. AHA. TheConners have retired peacefully in Flordia after the drug-related story and events of Spider-Man Unlimited #19. So it does not matter now!

I don't keep up with current 616 material, what's this about some spider-god in the other?

Ezekiel informed Peter that he would have got his powers radioactive spider or not because he was bit by a dying spider who wanted to grant him totemic powers as the larger conception of a great plan that a Spider God created to grant Peter his spider-powers...

Which is complete bull. I've been reading Spider-Man for a long time, and this entire re-invention deal should have been done someplace where no damage could be had. Seriously- walk down the street and tell people what Spider-Man has become and they'll give you crazy looks. Peter Parker doesn't eat people's heads, spiders don't have stingers and the "second life" business is yet another walk around the scientific origin. Take note, Mr. Quesada- talking to spiders and growing stingers does not nullify the fact that you killed and rebirthed Peter Parker for the sole purpose of making him "new and unrecognizable".

Why are people still looking back at The Other?:yellow:

The Other is like a car crash- you tell yourself you won't rubberneck, but you put your window down as you drive by anyways.

As well as a clear sign that he's probably doesn't have a real plan and is just throwing whatever crap against the wall that will hopefully stick.

And speaking of unresolved plot threads from "the Other: Evolve or Die", a bunch of posters as well as myself came up with around 30 or so. I think the only one that was ever "resolved" off of that list was the explanation behind how Mary Jane's broken arm "miraculously" healed between issues. :)

It was a rather pompous response to the fanbase, though- they made it seem like they were forced to do so under massive pressure. If anything Quesada and JMS' run make me feel like they hate the fanbase for even speaking up on the matter.

I guess when Morlun went to kill MJ he didn't expect Pete to give him the head's up.

Oh at least this story was good for something now.

I suppose Pete can be thankful that Morlun...... gave a little head.

Ouch. Too far... too far...

Close this thread!

Oh we're going there are we? Then fine.

After killing Morlun and enjoying the sucking of brains MJ goes "Uhh, Peter, like I'm the one around here who gives head."

Ouch, too far indeed.

The other is not worthy neither as a comic nor as toilet paper... To think that millions of tres died for that crap... Captain Planet should beat the crap out of Joe Q...

Hey, at least it's The Other where it should be: in a What If? book. :o
Aloha,
That's how I feel about the arc. No advancement of the Spidey mythos AT ALL.

Peter didn't just suck head. He made sure he used his stinger first. ;) Why you ask? ( OH NO! BAD JOKE!!!! ) Cause his Spider-Sense was tingling.;) :D ;)

Mmmmm, Sexual innuendo is priceless.

Brains are very nutritious.

I kind of like the Head-eating-brain-sucking-cocoon-busting Pete. Or whoever he really is.

Wait, I've figured it out. Pete's really the great weaver in human/spider hybrid form! And can't the 'great weaver' at least come up with a name? Sheesh, you'd think after centuries of doodling on a web he could do better.
